Bayonetta Re-Imagined In 8-Bit

By Ishaan . April 4, 2010 . 3:01pm

It was only an April Fool’s joke, but PlatinumGames are another in a long line of developers eager to embrace the 8-bit roots of gaming. If one were to think about it seriously, though, 8-bit feels like going a little too far back for a game like Bayonetta. A 16-bit re-imagining, on the other hand, might actually be fun.

That does look 16 bit. Like a genesis game or TG-16 , albeit not SNES. NES was 8-bit (and this has too many colors for that).

    • kupomogli

      Way too many colors

    • MisterNiwa

Indeed, it looks like 16bit not 8bit.

Ha, I like that chiptune remix. Retro Bayonetta seems right at home in Ghosts n’ Goblins, by the way.

It does look 8-bit in era. It looks like an arcade game of the time, and it is Sega arcade games that Platinum pays tribute to. I just beat the driving chapter, what was it, VIII? It was fantastic. I like the chiptune music that plays.

since I can’t edit my post, I’ll just say: I was told by my bro that it didn’t play the normal music… He’d already played it at a friends house. So I guess I must have activated a cheat.

The driving level plays Outrun music
The later rocket level plays space harrier music

You can turn the music retro by holding LB and LT at verse start

Yeah, I noticed the OR. I play a lot of OR2.

I haven’t got to the rocket level, can’t wait! :D

lol nice would like to c a 8bit or 16bit Bayonetta

    I wouldn’t mind a DSiWare version, personally.

  • thebanditking

I would likely be too much work but I would love to see this show up as a PSP mini or on DSi Ware.

It should be noted though that the music is definitely 8-bit… But yeah, as already stated, the graphics are more in line with 16-bit flavors as far as number of colors and sprite complexity.
