D3 Publisher Producer Says There Are Opportunities With Namco Bandai Titles

By Spencer . April 15, 2010 . 8:55pm

If you weren’t aware, D3 Publisher, the house of Earth Defense Force, Onechanbara, and Ben 10, is now a fully owned subsidiary of Namco Bandai. Unlike the Banpresto acquisition, D3 wasn’t absorbed into Namco Bandai. D3 still acts as a publisher in Japan and North America. This year, D3 USA is expanding their reach by handling projects originally published by Namco Bandai Games Japan.

Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow, a Nintendo DS game developed by Mistwalker and tri-Crescendo, falls under this category. We spoke with Joe Fletcher, Associate Producer, about the partnership.

“The opportunity is definitely there with Namco,” Fletcher said encouragingly. “They’ve come to us quite a few times and said, ‘hey our bandwidth is a little bit tight right now. We want to get this game out are you guys interested in like, you know, working on it?’ Like God Eater, which we announced.”

D3 USA, not Namco Bandai Games America, will publish the hot selling God Eater in North America. Namco Bandai’s Monster Hunter inspired game is slated for release on PSP in the third quarter of this year.

“That’s exactly the kind of opportunity. It’s not something they [Namco Bandai] said ‘you know were not going to bring it out over here.’ It was more, ‘hey, here’s an opportunity for you guys, we’re kind of tapped on our QA so if you guys want to do it here you go.’”

Check back next week for more on Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow where Fletcher discusses the game’s localization.

How ’bout some damned Tales games?

    • MrRobbyM

A thousand times this. If more tales games made it over here I wouldn’t hate Bamco with a burning passion.

    • I have only played the older Tales games, so maybe everyone can help me out here. I often see the constant anger for the Tales games not making it here and I don’t get it. Am I missing something incredible? The last one I played was Tales of Symphonia and even then it was only half way through that I played. Is there anything out there that’s better than the titles previous to ToS or what?

As for D3, I really appreciate some of the stuff they’ve brought out over here so I’m glad they weren’t completely absorbed by Namco Bandai.

      • Hraesvelgr

Well, a lot of people will argue that Symphonia is a pretty weak entry in the series. I’d have to say the Team Destiny PS2 games (the 2D ones) are probably the best in the series. Those titles were completely ignored and NBGI continues to more or less ignore the series, which causes rage amongst most of the fanbase. There are a few fan translations for various games in the series, but it’s slow work. Regardless, fan translations seem to be the best the series is going to get, honestly.

Isn’t TOS also the best-selling game? That would be ironic.

    • vall03

as much as I wanted this to happen, they’re going to suffer the same fate as Atlus and XSEED *sigh* Im seriously thinking of giving up entirely on the series…

  • JeremyR

How about putting a fixed version of PuzzleQuest PSP up on PSN?

  • Finally, my phone calls about Super Robot Wars might just pay off!

Also, I’m glad that D3 is stepping in.

NISA, Atlus USA, XSEED, take note: consider D3 as competition for Namco Bandai games named Ar tonelico, Summon Night, SRW, to name a few.

  • zhemos

So, we should direct our hate to D3 as well for not giving us Tales of Vesperia on the PS3? ^^

    • No. After all, they’re doing everybody a favor by bringing over Namco Bandai products that are NOT named Dragonball, Tekken, Splatterhouse, Pac-Man, Klonoa, to name a few.

    • Hraesvelgr

No, you should direct your hate to D3 for not giving you games that haven’t already been released in English.

  • banballow

I’m okay with this, as long as I get more EDF and Onechanbara down the line.

  • epy

Come on D3, bring us the Tales games that damn Namco Bandai always ignored-

  • I hope Namco will ask them if they are “interested in like, you know, working on” Summon Night X too.. :)

  • Guest

I know this games isn’t related to Namco (at least I don’t think it is) but D3…..bring over Tactics Layer…..pleeeeaaaassseee.
Oh and Tales of Hearts since (I know Im being an asshole here) I don’t think the dude who took over the fan translation is gonna finish it.

    Seriously though….gimme some Tactics Layer…

  • raymk

well as long as i’m getting god eater i’ll be happy with that for now

  • I don’t know about the other games mentioned, but I would -really like- to see D3 publish some of the games their Japanese counterpart already released, especially the PSP game, Sacrifice.

    • I asked about this too, but don’t have any news on that front. Sorry :(

  • masuto

Well, that’s good to know. But I’m still spiffy about D3 publishing and marketing quality. I really support God Eater but the question will be, how well are they gonna push the marketing for God Eater?

  • Yes man, we need freaking tales of games

  • *cough* Tales of Vesperia PS3 *cough*

  • CoolChibi

Yay! There is a savior after all! Rescue those games from the evil clutches of Bandai Namco!

  • holyPaladin

    Yap like all other here..

Please translate Tales games.. since Bandai Namco won’t

  • TheRealSneakers

3 games off the top of my head I want from Bandai-Namco that they are being stubborn about..

    1. Tales of Graces…that’s a given.
2 and 3. Both (Don’t be hating because I loved the first game) One Piece:Unlimited Cruise Part one and two. (I’ve been waiting and hoping for these two games for a long time now.)

Tales of Vesperia PS3 would be nice…but Graces is a must, since Vesperia has already seen an English release. Can’t be helped that the 360 got it. Great game too. My friend has the system so we rented it…but would buy the PS3 version if they make it.

I guess this means Go Go Cosmo Cops will be released here by D3 in America then.

For those of you who don’t know, this is what I’m talking about:http://www.cdwow.us/games/go-go-cosmo-cops-nintendo-ds/dp/4763373
