Interesting Tidbits From Capcom’s Fiscal Review

Here are a few interesting tidbits of information out of Capcom’s financial review that didn’t fit anywhere else.

  • Capcom’s employee-count rose from 1,506 to 1,813 between March 2009 and 2010.
  •

  • There is a term for Sengoku Basara’s “female history otaku” audience — Capcom’s financial review refers to them as “Rekijo.”
  •

  • Sengoku Basara’s version of Date Masamune was used as an image character for the Miyagi Prefecture Gubernatorial election awareness campaign in October 2009. The move was made due to the close ties between the real Date Masamune and the Miyagi prefecture, and to help increase the turnout of younger voters.
  •

  • Capcom believe the fanbase for Japanese pop culture is expanding in the West, as well as in Asia. Japan Expo in France and Comic Con International in North America are cited as signs of growth.
  •

  • In the mobile phone market, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney displayed signs of healthy growth, while the iPhone / iPod versions of Resident Evil: Degeneration grew in sales as well.
  •

  • A struggling Pachislot machine business was revitalized partly due to solid performances on the part of the Viewtiful Joe and Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams games.
  •

  • Capcom feel they were too slow to react to the “sudden changes in the overseas market of home video game software sales.”
  •

  • Monster Hunter Tri and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles both failed to achieve their projected sales in Asian territories (this doesn’t include Japan).
