These Are Pokémon Black & White Starter Silhouettes

By Ishaan . May 9, 2010 . 12:20am

Just a short while ago, Pokémon Sunday teased silhouettes of the starters from Pokémon Black & White. Vigilant as ever, fansite Pokébeach managed to get the scoop on a high-res image. The complete artwork will be revealed in the upcoming issue of CoroCoro magazine, which is expected to leak sometime this week.

Until then…the one on the left looks the most likely to be the grass starter. I’d say fire in the middle and water to the right.

  • A pig, a duck, and a bear with a space helmet *nods*

    I love Pokemon.

  • Vanilla

I see a charmander bred with a dodo bird, some weird bunny thing, and a deformed flaaffy.

    Oh god…

  • A lizard-duck? That’s a pig for sure… and a beaver-platypus? It looks mostly like a bear, but it’s got a flat tail…

  • jj984jj

From these silhouettes they look like the least creative starters for Pokemon yet. Going left to right it looks like we have fire, grass, and water.

  • MrRobbyM

I’m already severly disappointed. They’re not even trying anymore.

    • kupomogli

Have they been trying? The layout of every game is the exact same thing, while every Pokemon is nothing more than a Pokemon from the previous game with different looks.

      • MrRobbyM

I’m just talking about the pokemon designs(character designs could use a facelift too). They’ve just been geeting weaker with each new gen.

        • You think, at this point, pokefans care about that -.-‘? Of course they should but…

        • cocytusx

So the designs suck based on silhouettes? That’s incredibly stupid.

          • MrRobbyM

It’s so bad that I can tell from the silhouettes alone.

  • heartless141

    1st: charmander x cyndaquil.
    2nd chikorita x turtwig
    3rd bidoof x piplup

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

i agree with the commenters, it’s fire, grass and water from the left respectively. I base my theory on the bipedal-quadrupedal starter-pkmn theory.

  • Dude on the right: ESKIMEOW

  • heartless141

and can someone please explain to me why it’s always the grass pokemon have to be on all four? treeko was a fag so he doesn’t count.

    • TomSkylark

Treecko came out? I’m so glad to hear it; he kept using homophobic epithets to refer to inanimate objects, so I’m glad to hear he’s finally come to terms with his previously insecure masculinity. I was beginning to worry that he might never reach maturity, but maybe now he’s an out-and-proud Grovyle.

  • From the silhouettes I’m not really diggin’ the starters… I guess the grass lookin’ one might be alright looking, we’ll see.

  • left fire middle leaf right water

  • Pichi

I’ll wait till they are officially revealed before having a final say. I’m sure if other starters started as silhouettes, people will be saying the same thing.

  • RAVENKam

I’m only now digging my teeth into Heart Gold so at this point the inevitable gap between the Japanese and western release of B/W is kind of relieving, for a change.

  • TomSkylark

The one on the left looks like some sort of grass-type peacock, which would be rad. Top one looks like some sort of fire pig (maybe punning, rather darkly, on BBQ?), and the one on the right is either an otter or some sort of platypus. I’m hoping they all have interesting secondary types when fully evolved.

  • They’re Grass, Fire and Water. Nintendo never changes the order, BORING. I see a Grass/Flying, Fire/Psychic and Water/Ground as their final stages. Not sure about the Water one though. Still I hoped for a change of types, is still possible…right? :/

  • luckgandor

These are just silhouettes – I can’t fathom how can anyone possibly begin to judge how creative or strong the designs of these starters are based purely on their outline.

The one on the left looks like the grass starter to me, simply because the thing on its tail looks more like a leaf than fire.

  • Joanna

silhouettes don’t look too good, but I’ll hold out from passing judgment until I see them.

  • Vino (Tim N)

People complain about even trying? Look at the first three Pokemon starters, one was just a turtle, another a lizard, then a dinosaur with a bulb on its back. Of course they’re going to run out of ideas, and have to start making weird looking creatures, I’d say thats trying.
Anyways, I’m not the hugest fan of the latest Pokemon designs either though, but I do like the games, and I’m really excited for these games.

  • Mullane

Here is the order of best to worst pokemon generations.

    Gen 2>–Gen 1>– Gen 4>—All Digimon>— Monster Rancher>—————————————————————————————————– Gen 3.

I wonder where 5 will sit.

    • MrRobbyM

While I agree, you forgot to add “In my opinion”.

      • Mullane

I didn’t forget. It was a joke, aimed at my dislike of Generation 3.

      • satchidananda

Do you qualify every statement you make with ‘in my opinion’?
