Pokémon Black & White Starters And Trainers Revealed

By Ishaan . May 12, 2010 . 11:33pm

Say hello to your new starter Pokémon. From left to right: Tsutaja (grass snake), Pokabu (fire pig) and Mijumaru (sea otter). Leaked CoroCoro magazine information also reveals that the protagonists in Pokémon Black & White are older than usual, which gives one something to think about. As always, keep in mind there’s a small chance the scans could be fake until proven otherwise.

“small chance these scans could be fake”

    Please say it’s so.

    • I sure hope they aren’t fake, we’re finally getting a male trainer that doesn’t look horrible! We haven’t had one of those since G/S/C

    • NecroEclipse

i’m sry they are real there in the jap magazine crocro they are legit sry you are looking at the proud 5th gen starters.

  • kylehyde

OMG Pchan + pokemon = Pure epic win

Talking seriously, I hope that nintendo has paid some rights to Rumiko Takahashi or she’ll be really upset.

  • Kris

Why is the water Pokemon a spray-painted upright Bidoof? :(
Despite my distaste for the new starters, the trainers themselves look pretty well designed.

  • MrRobbyM

Pretty sure these are legit. Only reason I like the piggy (well, more than the others) is because it shows expression. Overall the designs are weaker than 4th gens(which were weaker than the previous gen) imo. The grass one freaks me out and the water one is just plan bad. I think I can get used to the piggy though. As for the trainers, I feel they are the only designs that have actually improved from 4th gen. The female trainer’s hair has lots of volume O_o

  • mach

I’m actually kind of liking the new starters.Oh, and once again we get a female lead with skin-tight shorts. I guess it’s still better than the 10 year-old Dawn and her impossibly short (not to mention whether inappropriate) skirt.

    • MrRobbyM

Anything is better than (forgot her name)’s Jimmy neutron hat and overalls.

  • If this is a ploy to get me to stop using my starter all the way through the game, it’s working.

    • MrRobbyM

….I think you might be on to something here. I’m guilty of this xD

  • nyoron

Historically I always pick the fire type first, but the pig is going to need some really awesome evolutions if that streak is going to continue.

    • Ereek

I’ve never played much Pokemon (I’ve been the DQ:M type) but what’s wrong with the pig? He seems to be the cutest out of the bunch to me.

      • nyoron

I have nothing against cute, but I just don’t like him for some reason or combination of reasons that I can’t pin down at the moment. My initial reaction to all 3 went like Grass – cool, Water – weird, Fire – oh hell no.

      • LastFootnote

Yeah, I think the pig is my favorite Fire-type starter yet, and the best-looking of the three 5th-gen starters. It’s the otter-thing that’s an abomination. It looks like a sad clown with freckles and no fashion sense.

    • Yea, I’m not keen on the pig myself. I think I’ll end up going for the Grass starter if I play this.

  • platomaker

Normal clothes, older models? The DS screen showing something similar to what’s show in other media? Someone’s been working. This might turn out to be a good venture.

  • Sakurazaki

Female… Not so hot anymore, Imo.

The male has seen a new light, finally, and I might be choosing my first grass type ever, lol. Will switch to male now.

Come on, Gamefreak, it’s been a while since I’ve seen something that actually looks like a reptile/amphibian… I think picking an unpopular animal as the strong, usually courageous fire type is a pretty bad decision… Almost as if they really ARE running out of ideas.

  • joesz

For the first time, I prefer frieza over those starters

  • thelostwoods

    Is she wearing cut-offs?

    • o0treegirl0o

Unfortunately. But hey, we couldn’t have a heroin who didn’t show off her legs now could we?

  • CrimsonFlamesX

I can’t stop laughing at Mijumaru’s face! Why does it have to look so silly!?

  • shion16

    ahahahahahaha xDDD
what’s with the haircuts xD? is this pokemon retro xD?

talking seriously, these starter pokemon looks bad, after johto they just made them uglier and uglier, and charmander still being the best fire pokemon.

But well that is not so important, what i want is better sound effects and a deeper plot

  • Guest

I want to punch the grass starter in his smug little snout.

    • MrRobbyM

Look at him in his eyes, “haters gonna hate”~

  • They don’t look too special this time around

  • wharcraff

Pum Pum shorts FTW. Lets hope their evolutions look more regal and/or menacing.

  • Pichi

Love the grass starter and the trainers. Looking good so far.

  • GRASS always rulez… okay maybe meganium and grovyle not but besides them GRASS rlz ima anxious to see the new annoying rotent and bird

  • Joanna

I really like the trainer designs!

Starters aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. Piggy looks weird to me. Grass looks cool, and I know everyone thinks the water starter looks weird, but I find him cute. :3
I’m still not sure which of these I’ll go with. I need to see the evolutions first.

  • Tofuuu

That pig… is just asking me to name it a very VERY demented name :) Cha Siu Bao or maybe just BBQ for short kekekeke…

  • Tofuuu

    crap, double posted =P soooorry

  • ndjn3979

What is this feminine vibe….? Ugly designs.

  • thebanditking

Ugh worst starters ever. Its like they are not even trying anymore. Also am I the only one who misses the original art style the first few games had? This looks like generic anime and their expressions are a bit too human like. I really miss the old style designs where they still looked like animals.

The trainers are a vast improvement over ruby/sapphire and Diamond/Pearl though. I have not liked the male trainer design since gold/silver these however look pretty good.
