Six Glorious Minutes Of Xenoblade Footage

By Ishaan . May 26, 2010 . 9:51am

Here’s a new introductory Xenoblade trailer Nintendo put out recently in Japan, presumably for those that haven’t been following the game. It’s six whole minutes long and shows off the battle system, field events, character customization and interaction.

Given that the game is mere weeks from launch, it should be interesting to see to what extent Nintendo market it, and whether or not Nintendo of America show it off at E3 in some form. It may not be the ideal candidate to demo on a giant screen at their press conference, owing partially to its rather unpolished art, but it certainly deserves to be localized, and an announcement confirming as much would be nice.

It looks fun, I just can’t get over the character designs, they’re terrible.

    • cowcow

I see nothing wrong with them you’re just over reacting. This isnt Dragon Age Origins

      • zhemos

Umm, what? Did I say anything about Dragon Age? A game in which I do not like and believe is over-hyped trash. I don’t like the character designs, doesn’t mean I’m automatically dismissing Xenoblade.

The Character designs are awesome this is what the wii needs to do more of and its work on character movement and design more not stick figure movement. Like i said to people i’m not given up on the wii its got its flaws so does the other systems but if i can see more games like this one i’m in for the long run. Plus from what i heard this game is a striking 50 hour + game which the wii was in dieing of as well since the debute of MHTri.

I don’t really like the character designs much…something about the graphics and their designs really clash. But wow–those scenic views while you’re running around are beautiful. I love the far-off backdrops of waterfalls and whatnot. One thing about XIII that bugged me was that most graphics were kind of just left to be repetitive and sit in the background (honestly, I thought RoF’s Ebel City and its gears was more impressive than most of what I saw in FFXIII), but this game definitely grabbed my attention and made me stare at it.

Also, gorgeous music. My expectations and hopes for this game have gone way up just from watching these 6 minutes.

    • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Oh yeah the music has captured my attention since the first trailer. Sad that I won’t be able to play this T-T

  • fuzzy_hobo

I had mixed feelings about this game until I saw this trailer. Yes, the graphics are dated and the scenario probably won’t live up to Xenosaga or Xenogears, but it seems to have more depth (in a game play sense, not story) then I initially gave it credit for. I hope Takahashi/Monolith can deliver and this gets localized.

    • NecroEclipse

Umm fuzzy what are you talking about this game has no if any reference to xenogear or saga at all its a new game built from the ground up.

      • fuzzy_hobo

I am aware of that (used to be called Monado, etc.), I just meant it in terms of Tetsuya Takahashi’s involvement since he was a driving force in each of those games.

        • NecroEclipse

ok good i was about to freak out

Despite the somewhat characterless art direction I’m looking forward to this. Hopefully it’ll see a US/European release and give me yet another reason (Monster Hunter Tri being the last) to give credit to the Wii’s burgeoning rpg library.

  • MrRobbyM

Definite buy. Lots of beautiful, varying environments, good enemy designs, pretty good music. Not sure about the story, but the character is the only thing that bothers me.

EDIT: HOLY SH** you can change outfits! No wonder they didn’t bother with the character design. Amazing!

  • vrakanox

I’m really looking forward to this one I mean it just looks fantastic to me. Like the type of RPG I’ve been waiting for for a long ass time. I just hope there is a fast localization.

  • MrMee

once again I feel like I’m the only one who isn’t bothered by the art direction in the least as I rather like…a lot. This game seems to have my name written all over in terms of being something I would enjoy. My only concern now is U.S. localized voiceovers. I’ll be fine as long as it doesnt share the same fate as Arc Rise Fantasia.

    • MrRobbyM

I will consider bombing Ignition if they somehow localize this game. Just kidding. Kind of.

  • lostinblue

    I don’t think it’s that unpolished considering it’s scale.

This seems like Baten Kaitos team or so though, since the modeling is nowhere near as godlike as the xenosaga team achievements on PS2 and Wii’s Disaster Day of Crisis.
