5 Centimeters Per Second tells the story of a distanced love between Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari, close friends that find themselves drifting farther apart over a period of time, and is widely considered on par with a Miyazaki movie with regard to direction and storytelling. A novelization written by Shinkai himself is currently available in Japan.
