Yes I am surprised by the American setting, but even more so with Russian's (if I'm not mistaken) as the villains; to me this setting is completely unorthodox for a Japanese developed title. I'm loving the gameplay possibilities though. I expected a mechanical Bayonetta from Vanquish and this video seems to nod somewhat in that direction. Just no Russian (pun intended).

It looks like they thought “Hey what if we mixed in a GoW type cover shooter with a Japanese style action framework?”

  • perron

hahahah! i like the fat american in blue shirt/baseball cap.

I've been waiting what seems like forever for some gameplay footage of this. Was worth it!

I am not actually surprised by the setting. A lot of games I've played by Mikami have Americans and various Europeans. The first cinematic trailer did make me confused as to whether or not it was a Japanese game and a P* one at that because the aesthetic looked very Western there, this gameplay vid fixed all that. Looks very Mikami and P* to me now. A mechanical Bayonetta indeed!

Fat guy + baseball = America

  • Aoshi00

Metal Gear Solid (3)? Bayonetta was great and I love what I see here :)

  • MrRobbyM

This is the kind of game I have been waiting a long time for.

At least Kojima had the heart to paint his Russian villains with a little colour. If this video is any indication, which it in all fairness isn't much, this looks like a black and white affair. But it's Mikami we're talking about so a decent narrative is perhaps asking too much. Bring on the bullet hell then.

This looks good. This will probably be a first day purchase for a friend of mine.

You said that you were surprised by the American setting from a Jpn developer and I don't understand how so. Many games made by Jpn had taken place in the US. I don't mind such setting and this looks like a fun action game as well if Bayonetta was any indication. Platinum Games's record is pretty good to me so far.

Mikami and fast pace action is always a formula for win.

  • Electrium

I would trust Platinum with basically anything…I have no doubt this game will be all kinds of win!

  • RAVENKam

I never suggested Kojima is the only capable writer in the industry just that Mikami, in my estimation, doesn't really instil confidence in this area – but hey that's not why I enjoy his games anyway. True enough as you say there are plenty of Japanese developed titles that use an American setting, I was just hoping for something narratively as refreshing as the visuals imply. But yes, this is Platinum Games so I'm still eager to see more.

Shinji-san career defining moment RE4, even afer P.N. 03 and Godhand, I have all the faith in the world that Shinji and Platinum Games will display a master class in the third person shooter genre. I sure Shinja will try his best and I guess the only he can go is up!
If you look at Shigeru-san even after creating arguably the greatest 3D platformer in Super Mario 64, now I'm hearing reports that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is even greater!
I guess expectations can be exponentially high when you have “gold standard” track record.

    GO! GO! PLATINUM GAMES!

  • DemonicX

    Amazing gameplay!

Looks like a first day buy for me!

  • Ujn Hunter

Sex… this game will be better than it.
