Studio 4°C to Produce New ThunderCats Show

By Ishaan . June 5, 2010 . 9:36am

ThunderCats Studio 4°C are making quite the name for themselves in the West via a healthy relationship with Warner Bros. Their first major project with the media giant was The Animatrix in 2003, followed by two episodes of Batman: Gotham Knight in 2008. Shortly after, came two episodes of Halo: Legends released in home video formats in February of 2010.

Now, 4°C are being contracted to helm another WB project in the form of a ThunderCats revival. According to Warner Bros., “A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne — and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost — takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling.”

Unlike previous collaborations between Warner and 4°C, ThunderCats will sport a more traditional anime art style. Michael Jelenic (Batman: The Brave and the Bold) and Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender) are filling the role of producers for the show.

Hopefully they do it justice (and make something better than the original which is quite boring to watch today aside from the awesome intro).

That bar you set is pretty low. They’ll certainly outdo the original episodes. However, setting the bar to regularly match that intro would be pretty damn high. I’d like to see them try for it.

I used to remember the original show to have fantastic production values. Then I saw an episode a few years ago and realised rather quickly it was the intro that was etched into my memory. The brain is funny like that, conveniently forgetting the bad while retaining the good.

    This is great news

Speaking of Studio 4°C, any word on the Berserk anime they are/were working on? I haven’t heard anything from them, aside from that leak from last year. :(

Let’s hope this doesn’t turn out like Voltron: The Third Dimension. *shudder*
