Playboy Magazine Invades Dead Rising 2

Hold it! Before you post a comment about how this is evil and Capcom are greedy, money-leeching vermin that need to stop faffing around and announce the next Onimusha already, consider this: in no way could having Playboy ads appear in Dead Rising 2’s world possibly detract from the game in any meaningful way. In fact, the two go together rather well.

Playboy isn’t the only publication that’s going to be in the game though. While there’s a special ingame issue of the magazine for players to find, Dead Rising 2 also features what Capcom are calling a “magazine system,” by which you’ll be able to pick up a variety of different themed magazines in the game that grant different bonuses.

“The Sin City-type environment in Dead Rising 2, Fortune City, is a natural playground for the Playboy Bunnies,” said Seon King, Senior Director of Licensing for Capcom Entertainment, Inc. “We have integrated the Playboy brand throughout the game in ways that bring even more life to Fortune City and add to the user experience.”

i wonder what type of bonus porn can bring to a character

    • Isn’t it obvious? It gives you one more large weapon to use.

I don’t even want to think about what you just said

          He means his penis.

          too late

      • Vino (Tim N)

Lets hope it doesn’t break when he uses it up.

        • You just need to recharge again like in No More Heroes. Guess what Capcom’s big Move / Natal presentation is going to be on. :D

  • As long as I can make the protagonist play in nothing but his boxers, I will forgive all else. <3

      That sounds so wrong

More Jean Reno or Van Damme :)?

Awesome playboy bunnies, even better than MGS’s gravure idols :)

  • Hraesvelgr

I’m okay with this, so long as it isn’t “in your face” type advertisements.

  • cowcow

The main character’s face looks like a mean Will Ferrell

  • … I was afraid of this.

Not for the reasons anyone’d expect. It’s more the case of ‘It makes my job a lot harder, damnit!’ For those not in Australia, it doesn’t matter. Perhaps sing a song about how fortunate you are.

Why? Stuff like this can materially change the contents of a game from (What I’d safely bet) a MA15+ title to an RC title. (Namely, from buyable, to banned.)

Granted, this is because of the fact that the Classification Board isn’t really sure what to do about online or DLC content, but still – Having a game that’s potentially enough to trigger one of the ‘Adult only’ clauses, while we still DON’T have an adult category, and only somewhat randomly (I have the feeling it may be a DLC thing, since the magazines sound like anyone can buy in to advertise or make a presence.)

I might be making a bit of a guess, but the whole thing reminded me of a warning I was given two weeks ago. It’s almost enough to convince me to bury my head in more paperwork…
