Zelda: Skyward Sword Originally Didn’t Use MotionPlus

The Legend of Zelda producer, Eiji Aonuma, revealed to president Satoru Iwata, that his Zelda team had initially given up on making Skyward Sword compatible with MotionPlus. That is, until, Wii Sports Resort producer, Katsuya Eguchi, came up to him one day and asked why he wasn’t using MotionPlus for Zelda’s swordplay when even Wii Sports Resort had pulled it off.

Encouraged by Eguchi, Aonuma and his team overhauled the game and re-designed the combat from the ground up to make use of the add-on. Amusingly, it was later revealed that Eguchi went to Aonuma under Miyamoto’s instructions. “Coming from me, it wasn’t persuasive,” Miyamoto joked.
