Durarara!! Licensed By Aniplex

Aniplex announced recently at their Anime Expo panel that the company has licensed the Durarara!! anime series for a 2011 release in North America. The series will receive a full dub, with the voice cast set to be revealed at Otakon later this year.

Aniplex have also erected an official site for the series, which you can visit here. And for anyone in Europe who missed it, Beez Entertainment in the UK have licensed the series as well, although, Beez only plan on releasing the series with the original Japanese voiceovers accompanied by English subtitles.

As long as they bring back Tatum and Glass for Isaac and Miria once again, I’ll be peachy.

  • karasuKumo

I’ve already watched the series :( I hope they make a second cos it’s awesome. Shizou FTW!!

  • Feynman

Awesome. Durarara!! is the best new anime I’ve seen in ages. I subscribed to Crunchyroll for the sole purpose of watching every episode the second it was available, so there is no way in hell I’m passing up a DVD release.

Good to see Sony make their full-fledged debut in the US anime industry… sure, they have released a show or two and some movies in the past, but Aniplex is their main anime publishing division. Animax too pretty please?

    Shizuo is da man xD

Cool! I thought this was something Funi would pick up, but oh well, I’m glad it’s getting a release. I still haven’t finished it, but I hope there will be a second season or extra episodes, or….rather I wish my japanese was good enough to read the novels…

Cool, but i didnt liked the ending, it was kinda predictable or boring, but it was pretty good

    • Ren

That ending was just a foreboding for the things to come, believe me. I read some snippets of the later books, and a lot of things surprised me(The anime covered the first three books, there are seven in total as of now).

If there’s a second season, expect too see more of Kasuka, Vorona, and the great Orihara twin sisters(who are actually more warped than her brother, but far more likeable). Seriously, the series only becomes rally good after the fourth book, so you can consider all of this season as the couvet.

    Hope for season 2 ^^
    Nice anime last season

Another anime to be ruined by dubbing. Can’t wait for some horrible accents.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

I’m half-hoping they make Celty sound Irish.

      • mirumu

Hopefully they’d make Simon sound Russian too.

        • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

That would be awesome. I really think anime would benefit from a wider range of accents and voice-types. :)

          • http://modorenai.livejournal.com/ modorenai

That’s a fantastic idea! Somehow I think Celty with an Irish accent would make her that much more moe. :D

And it would be really funny to listen to Simon mangle the English language with a thick Russian accent – it already cracks me up listening to his awful Japanese. :p

    • mach

If you don’t like the dub, don’t listen to it. Problem solved.

How does an OPTIONAL feature on the DVD ruin the show?

      • Zeik56

You assume weaboos know how to form any semblance of logical thought. They just see the words “english dub” and go into a blind nerd rage.

      • Hraesvelgr

Pretty sure Exhau is just a troll. I can’t think of any non-troll comments he (she?) has made.

        • BrotherCavil

I hope so. Cause I don’t want to think anyone is that retarded.

        • Ereek

Yeah, I’m going to have to agree with this as well.

        • Guest

I have strong opinions and state them bluntly, obviously I’m a troll.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tommy-Lee/518924335 Tommy Lee

Having strong opinions is fine. Wanting people to think similar things and ridiculing them for not doing so is being a troll.

Anyways, it’s the company’s first dub project. Why not wait and see how they handle it before you voice your opinion?

      • mirumu

I agree on principle, but I don’t really want to pay for a dub I’ll never listen to. I’d take a cheaper option if given the choice. At least when a Blu-ray or DVD has both options though everyone is happy (in theory anyway).

        • mach

The thing is, though, dubbed shows still outsell sub only sets (companies have openly said as much), meaning it actually lowers the price of the final release, since it’s easier to make a profit at a low price if more people are buying your product. This is why really niche, sub-only shows like those sold by NISA actually cost more than dubbed releases.Just because a show is released with a dub it doesn’t mean you have to pay more for it.

      • Guest

As much as it would be great if I were the only person on Earth, I’m not. The anime will be dubbed, and people will listen to the dub. Some will be under the horrifying delusion that the dub is good. Even worse, some will prefer it to the original audio. As a man who cares for his fellow man, this is terrible news to me.

    • BrotherCavil

People seriously still have this retarded train of thought?

Prolly a good idea for you to get disappeared now, brotha.
