Am I the only one who thinks the art on these games looks really bad? I’ve heard that the games have really interesting stories, but they look kinda amateurish.

@Sarah: Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing, it’s not that hard to get an artist, self-published or not, I mean especially with an innovation such as the internet, artists are kicking around every wheres looking for work oOo~! *briefly looks at camera*! Seriously though, I figure usually what it is, is it’s people who double up positions, such as being the game’s director and artist, or writer and artist well a there project is small.

Thats because it is amateurish. I guess you might not have known but this series started out as a self-published game sold at conventions. All of the characters were hand drawn. It wasn’t until later that it recieved the anime and manga adaptations (which improved on the character designs).

Just because they are self-published games doesn’t give it an excuse for having bad art. Look at Type-Moon’s Tsukihime or any Touhou game. They have good art and they are dojin games just like Higurashi and Uminkeo.

Touhou game? Good Art? Those two are the things that don’t belong in the same sentence. Seriously, the fanart is far better than the actual character portraits.

This is a very saddening argument that people make. By the end of even just the first arc, you won’t care about the art anymore. On the contrary, it’ll probably have grown on you by that point. It has a certain charm that the generic art from literally every other visual novel doesn’t have. It’s certainly different from other games that do legitimately have bad art.
