New Pokémon Black & White Footage

By Ishaan . July 18, 2010 . 1:34pm

The latest episode of Pokémon Sunday gives you a look at a few of Black / White’s new features, including a brief glimpse at your new rivals — there are two of them now — and the version-specific aesthetic changes. The area seen around 1:03 in the clip, for example, is the same city, except that the architecture looks more futuristic in Black and more traditional in White.

Beyond this, however, are even greater version-exclusives, as far as environments are concerned. Pokémon Black will have you visiting the Black City, while Pokémon White contains White Forest. Both areas, seen below, feature their own exclusive quests.

Here’s an interesting point of note: When you begin your journey in Black / White, you’ll set out on…wait for it…Route 1. Perhaps there’s more to the Isshu region chronologically than has been let on so far?

Black / White also feature something called a Global Link system, by which you can sync your game with a Global Link website and use it to access minigames on your DS, and capture Pokémon you wouldn’t normally find in the Isshu region. And finally, the video reveals a few more new Pokémon as well.

  • So there’s actually a big difference between the two games for once?
    Sounds interesting!

When I first started studying japanese,I always complained about the kanji.
But to tell the truth, the kanji makes the dailogue much easier to read. and.. more organized.
I don’t think I ‘ll ever get bored from pokemon..not even in 50 years.

    • I’m going through the exact same thing. I’m kind of at that point where you have a love-hate relationship with kanji. Knowing more of them makes you feel smarter and you can say more with less space, but some of them are a nightmare to learn.

    • Yeah, when i tried a pokemon in japanese, i was a lot more confused without kanjis, than when i played a game that had kanjis D:

    • There will be an option to change to Kanji in the new game (^-^)

    • Yeah, I hate learning Kanji, but when it comes to translating stuff, it’s a lot easier for me, because you know exactly what the definition is. Slang and borrowed words are the hardest for me, because it’s harder for me to look up…

  • puchinri

That was fun and exciting. I’m liking a lot of the new Pokemon more and more. And I don’t know why, but I have this odd love for Gochiruzeru. I can’t wait until B/W comes out and Bulbapaedia is doing the original on these PKMN and their names though. ouo’

Also enjoying the new rivals. This game looks more and more promising for me. Although I want to see more of the region now.

Hm, I guess for once, choosing which version to get comes down to more than which of the version mascots I think is cooler. I generally prefer natural settings so I think I’ll go with White-version. The black legendary macot, which I understand resides in White, does strike my fancy the most anyway.

  • I noticed that main characters such as N at 0:43 in the video will have in-game voices which is cool makes it a more complete game and I’m glad they are making an effort to make both versions different beyond version exclusive pokemon.

LOL How fabulous is that guy with green hair? I like the character designs, the Pokemon on the other hand :| One of them is literally a Pigeon!! I only like the Bird who used fly :D
I like the sprites motion though, there are equal pros and cons about getting this game :S

    • Joanna

The pigeon one isn’t too bad. I actually like it…but that gothic lolita pokemon? Very bizarre.

  • Joanna

I don’t like the exclusive areas. I want both in my game. Exclusive pokemon was bad enough. :(

Other than that, I am excited for this gen~

    • Well… as i see, all they did was change trees for buildings… so i wouldnt worry much

  • Pichi

Isshu is much further away than the other regions, according to GameFreak. So that could mean that Isshu is based on a foreign country and not Japan like previous regions, thus making the routes start back at Route 1.

  • Pretty cool, i hope is big, and the story is better than the later pokemons D:, also, now that i think about it, with all the customization games around, it wouldnt be too hard to create customizable main characters in pokemon…

  • NeoTechni

I wish theyd just switch to 3d. Pokemon Stadium is how old?

  • Anyone want to see a video of the Grass and Water starter evolving?
