Nintendo To Announce 3DS Price, Release Date On September 29

Bloomberg of Japan are reporting that Nintendo plan to announce pricing and release details of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS on September 29th. No further details are mentioned in the report, other than that the device is still coming this fiscal year.

Nintendo are in the habit of holding a press event some time toward the end of the calender year in Japan. At times, accompanying events are held in North America within a day or so of the Japanese event, usually with access to the company’s upcoming line-up of games. There’s a chance the 3DS announcement could be part of a similar event in Japan.

Putting my bet around 229-249 unless something's done about the price of the DSi XL.

I'd be surprised if it debuts sub-200 otherwise.

They're “saying” Nintendo plans to announce that stuff then right?

  • urbanscholar

And… I made a sticky note reminder on my desktop

Plan, not plans. I like to write regard companies as plural, since I use British English and well, companies are made up of several individuals, which I like to acknowledge. :)

I don't get, why people get so excited by this thing. Sure it has better visuals than psp, but do I need to remind you people that it has one not two but one joystick, so it's going to have the same problem as the psp for fps and it will have the same shape as the ds. Come people didn't your hands felt like cap after long hours of gameplay, I just hope ninendo won't make the same mistakes Sony did for the psp.

  • neogranzon

because they have some new and (I hope not) exclusive games. Also, most of them are big name titles (e.q MGS, Zelda, RE, etc)

Wow I'm kind of impressed it's hitting as soon as September, perhaps Nintendo will have it ready in North America for the christmas rush. I'd be super impressed if they had another November 19th-21st launch here >w<' I just wonder how much the pricing will be on it.

I'm desperate to try this out :D sounds really cool

Oh, I see, I see. That actually sounds like a good way to think about them. And “reporting”, huh? Looks like I completely missed the target this time.

This is just a date for when they will announce the release date though. I think they'll want to show it off at the TGS first before they sell them to the mass market.

    price $299.99 is my bid

  • malek86

I'm expecting a $189 price point. Just so they'll be able to say that it won't cost as much as a Wii.

  • neo_firenze

If you don't care about FPS, the one joystick thing is significantly less of an issue. I don't think a lot of Nintendo fans really care about playing portable FPS.

    $220
since the XL just came out this year, I'm guessing that a spring release will happen, but it would be great to have it by christmas, it is going to be EPIC XD

below of 100$, below of 100$!! xD

Japanese price should be interesting to see, relative to US and Europe, considering how high the Yen is, and how the foreign exchange loss is just destroying their income.

oh oh, my bad, first article I read when I got up, lol >w<'

I thought a company could be considered as an individual itself? Or is that a corporation…

  • STiger

Coming from a mouse and keyboard perspective for FPS games (by far more accurate than a controller, this is a fact)… Metroid Prime Hunters, which uses a touch configuration, controls WAY better than a dual control stick configuration. I even loved Metroid Prime 3's use of the Wii controller, but it was hell on the hands when you play the damn game three days straight.

  • STiger

Since everyone else is guessing what the price will be…

    FIVE-HUNDRED AND NINETY-NINE U.S. DOLLARS!

And uh… Ridge Racer will be a launch title.

  • STiger

That's probably the most reasonable price point. I'm still betting it might be $209 though.

Depends on the kind of company, and the state laws which is subject to. In some states, I believe that even non-corporate companies will acquire legal personality. But I'm not sure, because while I know some stuff of my contry's commercial laws (Italy), I don't really know anything about the outside. In here, even non-corporate companies can acquire a sort of legal personality, although it's weaker than that of a corporation.

Anyway, I think a profit-driven joint stock company like Nintendo is always considered a legal person, regardless of the state.

Mario 64 controlled awful on the DS though, and so does MGS PW on PSP (neither shooter or action scheme worked for me).. is it so unreasonable to ask to put in 2 analog sticks even in 2010? They're not a must for most games, but why limit yourself..

I'm thinking this baby would cost about $250, that would be the sweet spot..

  • MisterNiwa

I love the Coded Arms controls and I do love the MGS PW controls aswell!

  • MisterNiwa

    ITS OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAND… Yen.

    Well, thats for sure.

  • Aoshi00

I haven't played the Coded Arms, but MGS PW's was a make shift control, none of the control schemes was perfect.. it's like taking away the right analog stick on the PS2 for the old MGS games and map them onto the rest of the btns, it's a handicap.. I thought the lack of 2nd stick was horrible for a shooter.. but DS and PSP were old hardware. So now this new 3DS portable is coming, and it still doesn't have a 2nd analog stick that people have asked for years, I just don't get it… I hope the eventual PSP2 would finally give us a right analog stick, or the 3DS2 revision would…

  • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

Although I do agree with a 2nd stick (avid MH player x_x;) this seems just like the typical short sight Nintendo has, people have been asking for 2nd analog sticks for years — on the PSP T_T' I think when it comes down to it people have been more critical of the PSP, and I think a PSP2's design might reflect peoples feedback from the original more. 3DS design decisions I think are more internal, because the DS has never quiet gotten the same flack.

Nintendo is announcing that they're gonna make an announcement. Who do they think they are? Capcom?

  • SPACEGIRL

    I really hope you're right.
