Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity Joins The Update Party [Update]

By Ishaan . August 24, 2010 . 10:44pm

With both Monster Hunter and God Eater providing updates to existing games to make them better, SEGA didn’t want to be left out of the update party. Today, Famitsu revealed Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity.

The major feature SEGA are pushing in Infinity is a new episode with an extended story. The Famitsu reveal also makes mention of a new character, Nagisa, who wears an eyepatch and carries a giant sword.

Update: Additional details about Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity are out. Nagisa is part of a new race called Dyunmans. The game’s fifth race is another human evolution where everyone has an eyepatch and an Infinity Burst special attack. Other races have new costumes in Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity.

Sega made a character reincarnation system, which allows players to reset their character’s level to build up their other stats. Players looking for a challenge can try out Infinity mode, a new difficulty level.

Other new features include a visual lobby, a cell phone style text input system, screenshot utility, and a tag mode-like feature where players can share mission codes like a “mission with a dragon” (think .hack style dungeon making). The amount of content in this version is 1.5x the volume of Phantasy Star Portable 2

Dang it! Of course, right before the US version hits, we hear about an update. :(

Yeah, this is kind of what sucks. Namco-Bandai moved God Eater’s NA/EU release back to add the extra stuff in from Burst but here, we have PSP2 coming out in a few and then this is announced for JP. Sure, delaying it in NA/EU would mean a longer wait but it’s more content in the end.

Its not like we wont hear about the PSP2 at TGS.

        • SlashZaku

Are we talking about the same PSP2 here?

            lol you silly guys

    • Seriously, STOP THE MADNESS, Japan!

    The swords taller than her….

      What’s not to love!

    • godmars

Probably weighs twice as much too.

Though the same can also be said of FF7 Cloud’s sword as well…

Wonder how much longer we have to wait for a PS3 Monster Hunter title?

Capcom is funny on this. MH3 was announced for PS3 first this gen and now PS3 is the only console without a MH title :|

Can’t say I’m a fan honestly [of MH]. I’ve tried the GE demo and enjoyed that more compared to say, the MH and LoA demos. So I wouldn’t mind a PS3 GE with some PS3-PSP Connectivity.

  • Seems like an interesting character. Then again..I used a female cast in Phantasy Star Universe and just wielded a sword the whole time, so I’m used to seeing a female running around with a sword much bigger than she is, heh. Now then..let’s hope that after this is finished, we can finally hear word about a new Phantasy Star Universe (or something similar anyway) for PS3/PC/360.

It’s about time they bring the online game back to consoles. There’s too much potential being wasted, the longer they keep it on a portable. While it may be good, it would be even better if they could just put all this content from PSP and PSP2, PLUS add some new content to make a Phantasy Star Universe sequel of some sort much better.

Anyway, I’ll be looking forward to an announcement for something similar to this on PS3 and such in the future.

“The game’s fifth race is another human evolution where everyone has an eyepatch”and illegally download their games….. Finally a character class that pays homage to the majority of PSP owners. :D

  • On the one hand, I JUST GOT the PSP2 demo – give me a chance to feel like I’ve got the latest hotness before blinding us with science. On the other hand, Sega has a good track record when it comes to localizing Phantasy Star things, especially things with Phantasy Star Universe. Therefore, I’m only slightly worried that North America won’t see this.

  • The chick looks hot D:

    • d19xx

Yeah. There’s another orifice under that eyepatch…

    • raymk

yeah she looks hot and cool =D

  • MarkMario

A race where everyone haves a eyepatch o.o
