During this period, the company’s advertising revenue dropped by 24.8%. Sales of manga, however, rose by 2.8%, owing to both higher sales of Shounen Jump and individual volumes of manga.

Despite their losses, Shueisha had a better year than both Kodansha and Shogakukan, both of which posted losses as well. In terms of revenue, Shueisha have overtaken Kodansha as the largest Japanese manga publisher.
