Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta Goes Live

  Via Square's FFXIV Twitter feed:

“The FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test begins on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 2:00 (GMT)! We hope to see everyone participate!”

We'd recommend keeping an eye on that feed so you can keep track of beta timings. Final Fantasy XIV releases on September 30th. When it does, you’ll be able to transfer your character’s name — that’s name, not the character itself — from the beta into the full game. You can read up on how to do this here. (PAL folk go here)

Any ideas on how we can join the Open Beta w/o weird catches? Is it just simply go to the FFIV main site, register then download the game? Or does it still have “exclusivity” that they will only let in the previous people who were in “line-up” for the closed Beta who weren’t able to play?

its only “Open” to people who had a key before as far as i know. Dunno why they called it open beta…instead of something like a Final closed beta lol

It’s so confusing there’s also been fighting over other forum if this is actually a “True” Open Beta and not like a fake open beta that Aion had. Crap. I guess it was expected but I still even kept my hopes up xD Just wanted to try the game but my first impression of the videos in youtube (real in game gameplay) was that it was boring.

“Open” Beta means no more NDA. As in you’re open to post whatever you want about it (even though posting video was the only thing not under NDA in beta 3, you’re now free to post as much video as you want). Not necessarily “open” as in “hey everyone, come on in, the water’s fine!”

1 hout gameplay daily limited, afther the hour, you start to a kind of “debuff” (i think it even lowers exp)….and you need to pay for a subscriction, im not even gonna see a video of this, the hype died when they said this was gonna be P2P

you thought it was free? didnt you learn after XI?

You were expecting not to pay? . . .Seriously?

you just dont gain exp and no item drop or something like that, final fantasy has been disappointing me since 7(yes im one of the people who DID play seven and thought it sucked very bad in terms of story, one of the few who didn’t just like the game cause cloud has a big sword or sapiroth or however his name is spelled, cause of his gay yet oddly sexy hair) so im not so surprised at all this fail really.

It was never expected to be f2p. Most serious MMOs (aka non-Korean permabeta MMOs) are p2p, unless you come from a separate reality.

First off, there’s 8 “thresholds” when it comes to Exping. After 8 hours of Exping you go down one threshold and gain less xp. This continues depending on how much you xp. But if you do other events, like quests, then it slowly regenerates; it fully resets every week.Secondly, this will be an “Open” Beta. You have to register to get a key in order to download the Beta. You can’t register yet, but I’m sure it will be up very soon.I’ve played the Closed Beta quite a bit and wrote a few entries about it here: http://gameinformer.com/members/dogfonos90/blog

Edit: FFXIV Open Beta postponed – as of right now there is no date when it begins and you still cannot register.
