Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale Is Heading To Steam September 10th

Up until a few weeks ago, Carpe Fulgur were still working out how they would distribute Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale. Today, they revealed that the game will be available on Valve’s Steam service.

“We are happy — almost to the point of delirium, really — to be on Steam,” said Andrew Dice, Project Director for Recettear at Carpe Fulgur. “This is the first time an independently-made game from Japan has appeared on the Steam service. This will allow the game to reach an audience of millions that otherwise would’ve been closed to it, and we have high hopes that Steam users will enjoy the game for the unique gem that it is.”

Steam certainly should do good things for Recettear’s exposure. The game will be released on the service this September 10th for $20. Pre-purchasing in advance will let you shave $2.00 off the price.

Additionally, for non-Steam users, Recettear will also be available on Gamersgate.

  • This is the route Falcom should’ve done long ago!

Christmas sales on Falcom stuff!? Boom baby!

Wonderful news. Pre-order placed. Decent UK price as well, which is rare – $20 is so often taken to equal £20 in the world of Steam.

I really do hope this sells well. We could see a great deal more support for games of this sort if it shifts a good few copies.

Interesting. What kind of game is this, exactly?

    • Is pretty cool, i could explain to you, but you should better try the demo in their main page, it should be in one of the other articles about Recettear.

From playing the demo: You run an item shop and sell stuff to people (you can haggle the price too, which I thought was neat). You can buy stuff from either the Guild or the market, or you can take an adventurer to a dungeon and get loot. In the dungeon, it plays like a typical ARPG.

There also seems to be mini story arcs from what I can tell since you can talk with other characters at different points in the game.

Any way, the best way to find out is to try the demo yourself. There should be one up on Carpe Fulgur’s site for free.

  • Cool, so cheap! ppl have to buy this, no excuse of other means

  • There’s a demo currently up. Downloading now. 8D

Well it’s in Steam’s top sellers, and has been getting a lot of coverage over at RPS. Seems like this is really going to take off. Exciting stuff!
