Madden NFL 11 was the top-selling game for the month of August in the U.S., according to Electronic Arts. But guess what else didn’t do so bad? That’s right, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

When StarCraft II released on July 27th, it was a simultaneous release across North America, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Within its first 48 hours on the market, the game rapidly sold through 1.5 million units. Within the first 30 days, that number increased to 3 million, making it the fastest-selling realtime strategy game ever.

“Activision’s enormous simultaneous worldwide launch for StarCraft II has made it the fastest-selling strategy game ever.”

With all due respect to the author, this game was both created and published by Blizzard. Just beacuse Blizzard is part of Activision-Blizzard does not mean the IP suddenly belongs to Activision.

Oh, that was meant to be ActiBlizz. My bad. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

Personally I’m a fan of the name Actizard!

3 million is not bad but I find it sad that a world wide launch of SCII, which imo is one of the most over hyped up game this year, could not beat a pretty much US only Madden 2011.

The difference is likely because of Madden having a wider appeal and being on so many more platforms.

rar, I went in on my birthday and picked up Limited Edition for a friend because he was working, and you could only pick up LE’s on the day of release. Oddly enough went in first thing and it was a ghost town, I was kind of surprised.

To me sc2 is the most enjoyable game ever since capcoms 3rd strike. Yup, i like my games deep. 3 millions aint that much when you consider that broodwar sold almost 4 million copies in korea alone. Anyway great game and i am sure i will play this for the next ten years.
