Onechanbara Special Slashes Onto PSP

By Spencer . September 16, 2010 . 3:12pm

imageWhile the PSP is home to the Onechanbara meets Monster Hunter game called Exorsister, it doesn’t have the original bikini clad zombie slasher. That’s about to change.

D3 Publisher brought Onechanbara Special (temporary title) to Tokyo Game Show without much fanfare. It just popped up on their exhibitor list without any screenshots or information, sort of like how Onechanbara R was announced a few years ago. That was the last Onechanbara game from Tamsoft.

D3 Publisher picked up past Onechanbara and we can confirm they are bringing a new Earth Defense Force game to North America, so I suppose there’s a chance for Onechanbara Special. But is it a port or a new Onechanbara title?

  • There’s an Onechanbara meets Monster Hunter game? I need to check that out I love those kind of games.

Though I’m marginally-embarrassed to say it, I actually enjoyed the Wii rev of this series, though I’m pretty sure that w/o motion controls that would evaporate.

  • Even Holmes at Dtoid said there wasn’t a line to play the demo. From the video he posted what we got was:Aya and Saki (the two sisters) and the same zombies we know and love, like the Andore Jr. zombie. What’s new that I noticed was the stage that takes place on a beach. After playing both the Wii and 360 quite a bit there wasn’t a beach area that looked like this, so that was new.Homles mentions four characters appearing on the billboard*, which if he is referring to the Wii game that would be Reiko and Misery.

Edit*- looking back at the video there appears to be Anna ( the woman wearing a police uniform from the 360 game) on the billboard as well. No mention of if she or the other characters are playable or it this is totally a new game in the series.
It would be nice if they brought a couple of the characters that appeared in the PS2 games. They had nice attacks.

Eh? I thought Holmes was playing this with a 360 controller at Destructoid?

    • I should have posted this earlier :P
But, nah, at 1:19 they even show the button layout for it:

OH! The loading screen is new, too! Not sure if it’s interactive like the Wii or 360 version, though…

Oh wow you’re right. It looks just like the Wii/360 games….wonder what that says about….this whole….thing.

Pity no one thought to combine this with Dead Nation. 2/3 top-down scaled so you see “bouncing,” then just give an option where you can find weapons and clothing.
