God of War: Ghost of Sparta Demo Hits PSN Tomorrow

It kind of amazes me that you can take a God of War: Ghost of Sparta screenshot, blow it up to twice its regular resolution, and it still looks great. Luckily, screens will be a thing of the past soon — Sony announced the demo for the game is going public tomorrow.

Previously, the Ghost of Sparta demo was only available to PlayStation Plus subscribers. The full game releases November 2nd.

  • It does look pretty nice, put the game up on my 40″ TV and was about the same as a PS2 game in terms of graphics. Wish there was some way to get it the PSP to actually output in a true widescreen format though.

That’s my gripe w/ the PSP-2000’s video out, w/ so much black space on all sides.. the GBA games could look bigger on my TV w/ the GB player. Still have Collection and GoW3 to finish though, so I’ll pass on this..

Though you probably know this, the PSP does output in a 16×9 image for the XMB and movies (both UMD and downloaded) but the games can’t because that little box that you see on your TV is actually the biggest the PSP’s GPU can process the image on its own with the assets on the the UMD. Also since the PSP does not have any up scaling software built into it, it can’t stretch it either. There is homebrew that will allocate more of the PSP’s GPU to upscale the games to fit any tv but for graphically intense games (like God of War) the extra strain on the GPU can cause button input lag and slowdown.

There should also be the Castlevania demo, at least on the european PSN. I’m definitely interested in checking it out.

Castlevania Lord of the Rings looks to be good, but I wish they left it as a new IP named Lords of Shadow rather than them throwing the Castlevania title on it to get more sales and being the reason they kept the game. Konami employee: We’re canceling Lords of Shadow. The main character has a whip like weapon and looks somewhat like Simon Belmont, hmm? Lords of Shadow is now to be Castlevania Lords of Shadow.

      • Well the developers did say in interviews that they still had the Castlevania formula in mind even when they didn’t have the Castlevania name attached to it and that adding the Castlevania name to the title only felt natural and honestly from what i’ve seen so far I can’t really blame them…

I agree with you to a point (as time has gone on my opinion changed). When I first heard about this I was mad that Konami took the series away from Igarashi (especially after the announcement of his new one at TGS 09). I will miss Kojima’s art and Yamane’s music but overall this title looks amazing. all I ever worry about when going from a JP dev to a Western one, is their respect for the series; and from what I have seen this title has that in spades.

Actually just saw the new Lords of Shadow post, so decided to delete this and put it there. This was a long rant.

While I enjoyed the first PSP GoW, for some reason I’m having a hard time getting excited for this. I don’t know why, it’s not that it does anything wrong. Though I think it will be difficult for them to top the first.

Out from the gow franchise,2 and the psp verison were the best for me.1 was just too average and 3’s story was a pile of crap,But 3 had the best gameplay of them all.
And I’m looking forward for this.

  • Games like these make me amazed to be a PSP owner, awesome near console like experiences in the mere palm of my hands. Awesome value awesome presentation. That being said, Im still cranking my way through the collection, the series is kind of bloody and full of gore so I have to get through it through such tiny chunks at a time, its hard to handle. And its rather brutally difficult…

  • OMG! A new God of War game!

This needs to be bought, day one!

  • Chains of Olympus is basically the best game on the PSP. And they’re saying they’ve surpassed that one with this one…..I’m so excited

Hopefully the public release will have the system freezing glitch fixed. For those who don’t know the original demo has a bug that randomly causes the system to lock up and power down on its own. Supposedly playing the game with your WLAN switch on fixes the issue but I have not tested that theory.
