Wow. This is insane. I don’t think ANY system as ever had this much support prior to launch. Capcom please please announce a monster hunter!?

(Although we all know PSP2 is gonna have a MH launch game)

  • Will it come to America?

*Looks at Tales of Innocence, Hearts, Graces, and the Destiny Remake*

    No, it probably won’t. :(

    • It’s Abyss, so it might.

      • Well we didnt get the Tales of Phantasia Full Voice edition PSP port…

        • That’s a different story entirely.

      • Vanilla

But Abyss also went out of print, so that doesn’t look too promising to me.

      • The PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia didn’t. (Even though the Xbox 360 version did.)

I’ll just replay my PS2 version instead.

        • Man, people just need to have hope.

          • For me, hope for the Tales of series died when Namco Bandai didn’t bring over Tales of Innocence.

          • Yeah I do have hope…hope in Namco Bandai will continue to give Naruto games preference over the Tales of games, so the US doesnt miss out on awesomeness.

Ive been dying for an announcement of other tales games for so long, lol.

          • …No. Just… no.

          • I think hope is something that has its limits, and belive me, they have freaking extended my limits and broke them, so no more hope for those $*&^#

  • holyPaladin

Seriously?I can see Tear, Guy, and Jade in 3D? :PBut another question, will it get localized?Since Tales port never localized even though the former localized (except ToP GBA and ToE PSP if I’m not mistaken)(ToS PS2 not, ToD PS2 not, ToV PS3 not, etc if any can’t remember)
    Well 50:50 I guess

  • urbanscholar

As someone playing Abyss now on the PS2, I would be more than thrilled to take it with me on a handheld. Fun game + portability = good times.

  • Sweet, another Tales game we won’t be getting god i hate you so much Namcabodia.

  • I have never been this excited for a handheld gaming system to be released.

  • karasuKumo

Looking forward to Animal Crossing, I’m sorry Sony but unless the PSP2 is announced with a crapload of great titles I’ll be buying this. The PSP has been out for ages and there’s only around 15-20 amazing titles on it, this already looks like it will surpass it within a few months.

    • SlashZaku

I’m pretty sure that’s why Sony hasn’t announced it yet. They’re getting a solid line up together first and giving all involved 3rd parties some time. Stressing them with their own handheld and having to focus on the 3DS development as well is going to have to draw some compromises for time.

      • karasuKumo

Yeah good point, I’d rather they took their time with it. I’d really like them to improve the graphics, look at Phantasy Star Portable’s textures lol

    • superdry

15-20 amazing titles probably in the US. Japan wise there are lots of fun/good/great games.

      • karasuKumo

        So unfair :|

    • Thats a rather forward statement to make, Im still having extreme doubts on which of these games will even be out by the end of 2011…

And alot are ports or 3DS makes…certainly far from must buy/justify buying this system type material.

  • idofgrahf

Not really interested in the 3DS, though Tales of the abyss is one of the better tales that’s come out, I doubt it will get localized, Namco isn’t Atlus after all.

  • AdamBoy64

    What the hell.. ToTa.

If it’s just a straight port, there won’t be a great deal of work needing to be done for localisation. If they add a whole bunch of content, then yeah… less likely we’ll see it here.

  • This might actually convince me to play Abyss again. Nah, I’m not that desperate..

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

A 3DS with Street Fighter IV 3D and Tales of the Abyss in my possession and my life has been 25% more fulfilled.

  • AdamBoy64

I have this feeling that Namco will localise this Tales of the Abyss port rather than Graces F, New Tales or Vesperia PS3.

It’ll be like throwing us a bone… and it’ll work – it’ll make the fans delirously happy… for the cheapest amount of money and effort possible.

  • …I guess it at least won’t have the load times of the PS2 game.

  • Well the flaw with showing all these announced games is ow many are even going to make it out in the first year? Im torn between buying it day 1 and waiting for the games, or buying it later when it has decent library.

Tales of the Abyss is a surprise, wasnt the game on a DVD? How can they fit it on the 3ds…

    • Always buy later. If you’re worried about a game going OOP and getting rare, buy the game. Minimizes your loss just in case something doesn’t pan out.

I’ve been buying games before owning their respective consoles since PS2. If I’d bought a PS3 day one since I expected it to inherit the PS2 throne, I’d be so bitter right now that I might have quit console gaming and moved to PC or something.

  • Er there are barely any RPGs…

Dammit Namco! Now I might get a 3DS on release…

  • andref

I might just have to trade in my Wii for this and convince myself this is a badly needed upgrade though it will be after the new legend of zelda comes out

  • MrRobbyM

dksfjgkljdghkdhbgdfhgkljdfg. Knowing Bamco, they’ll localize this niche genre game we already played on a bigger screen with more comfortable controls instead of focusing on localizing a new Tales game. This shouldn’t even exist. My hate just grows everyday..

  • Professor Layton and Tales of the Abyss… The 3DS is getting interesting. There goes my resolve to wait with getting one for a few years.

  • Kris

    Sold! Oh, wait. Hmmm…
Lets just hope the 3DS is region-free!

    • I thought a download type store, eliminates the changes for it being region-free.

      • That’s what I figured too. Which is a shame, really. If the PSP2 is region-free, then I’ll go with that for my next handheld console instead.

      • Actually, just because there’s a download store, doesn’t mean that it will not be region-free. The PS3 is actually region-free, despite having an extensive store, and the DSi was actually region-free when it came to physical media games.

        • No, the DSi is not region free when it comes to physical games. All “DSi-enhanced” games are region locked. There just aren’t many of those out, so you don’t hear about it as often. That’s why everyone’s convinced the 3DS will be region locked.

The best we can hope for is that the region locking is optional like the 360, but that is unlikely.

          • Huh. You’re right, one wouldn’t hear about that often. I mean, how many games are even DSi-enhanced? I know Pokemon Black and White is, and that can be played on DS/Lite at least, and I can only find one exclusive for the system itself– one that doesn’t even look all that good.

I still doubt at this point though that the 3DS will be region locked to the specific physical media, at least. Importing is fairly good when it comes to the DS– though personally I just don’t want my chances of getting a 3DS Ouendan game to go down the drain.

          • superdry

The other DSi enhanced game that was interesting to importers was Idolmaster: Dearly Stars.

Ugh…I’m excited about the 3DS, but I don’t like this suspense of “is it region-free?”

  • That’s cool. The PS2 copy I got is scratched up quite a bit, and the loading times are soooo long.

    Time to learn Japanese.

  • gatotsu911

I’m not getting excited unless it’s confirmed for international release.

Also, in regards to the software list, I’m kind of surprised Square Enix doesn’t have a single RPG planned for the system. That NAMCO beat them to the punch is mind-boggling.

    • Isnt this list in compliment with the one from the E3 conference?. SE had Kingdom Hearts 3DS, Final Fantasy series…

      • gatotsu911

This list has games that weren’t on the E3 list, e.g. Tales of the Abyss.
Personally, I’m crossing my fingers for a 3DS version of Final Fantasy X and/or XII. At least until the inevitable FF6 remake.

  • I want to hope this WILL get localized because the Tales of the Abyss anime was licensed here, and if the 3DS version came out here to coincide with the anime it would be perfect.

  • shion16

    ………………….DAMN YOU NINTENDO!!!!!!!!
I had no interest in this console, im sick of nintendo ports!!!
but tales of the abyss……………TALES OF THE ABYSS!!!!!!!!!
Im confused now, i love this game, i love their characters(especially Jade)………….
God, what should i do? D=

  • Wow! Still got to finish this on the PS2, but I’d really like to play in on the 3DS. Now… I’m not sure if want to buy the 3DS at launch..

  • puchinri

Ace Combat and kind of considering ToA.
The Nintendo list is an obvious want, as is Professor Layton.

By the way, when will we get news on the new change for Layton and the Mask of Miracles?

  • speedstersonic

Does anyone know if the 3DS is region free yet? PLEASE LET IT BE SO!

That was my favorite tales game. And we probably have no chance of getting this version localized, so I hope I can at least import.

  • kupomogli

I’d rather this not get localized if it makes our chances for another Tales game to get localized worse. I’d rather receive a game we haven’t got yet, not port #7432 on the Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo is probably throwing large amounts of cash around being the reason that they’re receiving this kind of launch support.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I’ll take the upcoming, brand-spanking new, yet-to-be-named Tales of wtvr coming for the PS3 over any other recent tales game that hasn’t been localized yet.

  • So in order to increase chances for a western release, this would have to be the most barebone port imagineable, so they can reuse the translated script?

  • kylehyde

Great the first tales of “who cares” (Is obvious that Namco bandai don’t) for 3DS.

  • malek86

I think this one will actually come stateside. Especially if it releases on launch day, when you still don’t know what kind of people will be buying the console, and when people have less choice of games to buy. Namco would probably try and test the waters with it. Of course, if it fails, we’re done for.

  • Pichi

Added stuff would be nice, along with English VA for the skits as well. But, its Namco, so chances are low to care about it. Which is a shame, as I can see it bringing at least “okay” monies if its the first RPG to release for the system.
