Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Demo On Xbox Live Now

By Ishaan . October 4, 2010 . 1:18pm

The Castlevania: Lords of Shadow demo is finally up on Xbox Live, so you can go grab it now if you’re in the mood for vampires and whips. Note that new addition to Siliconera staff, Kriss Knigge, loves him some whips (and chains) so he’s been raving about it since last night. He even called it “his Other M,” which is high praise in my book.

Two select quotes from his Highkniggeness below:

Kris: “I am hot for this thing.”

Kris: “And the first time I saw an in-engine cutscene, I thought it was CG.”

Hooray! I guess I know what I’m doing tonight after I finish all this grading… Thanks, Konami!

I played it on PSN already but I felt Gabriel’s english voice was kind of unfitting. Maybe I’m too used to this gen’s games where I expect every masculine guy to sound like a smoker. But anyways, I prefer the Japanese VA. Besides that, demo was pretty good.

    • Aoshi00

Exactly, Patrick Stewart is awesome and all, but I didn’t like Gabriel’s Eng. voice from the trailer either, just seems a little high. Fujiwara Keiji has a very deep voice and usually voices “manly” chars. So did the Castlevania demo you played have Jpn voice option? I’m going to d/l the 360 demo right now, still need to decide which system to get it for before tmw.

      • MrRobbyM

Nope. The demo only had english VA. I’m basing my opinion on the TGS trailer(which was awesome). I was hoping the game had a Jpn VA option, but don’t think it will :/ Still, awesome game and definitely getting it.

Oh man.. I was hoping it would since the Vanquish demo was dual track, Enslaved had Jpn text option but no Jpn dub.. I guess Castlevania is not including the Jpn dub since the Jpn release is over 2 months away. It’s a pity, but I’m also picking up the game, can’t wait to try the demo (my internet connection isn’t very fast…)

Haha I love how little information there is about Castlevania in this post, this is my kind of reporting! rar, dude I totally put two and two together, Kris = TheCleaningGuy aka little Kobun dude >w< haha congratulations!

    • Aoshi00

lol, I’m not a huge Mega Man Legend fan, so I just call that a Lego head :)

Hey Kris, did you play the Euro PSN demo? Jpn voices? That’s my burning question. I just found out the 360 ver. is only 2 discs, but if you install disc 1, you could play w/ disc 2 w/o swapping. I need to decide which ver to get tmw, I hope they would have the Jpn voice option.

      • Kris

Hmmm, I don’t believe the Euro PSN demo had Japanese voices… As for which version is better, I don’t really know, but I remember that IGN’s review said something about a glitch where the game freezes up a bit when Gabriel does an insta-kill on the 360.
That said, I’m hoping that there’s dual voice on the disc, but I can’t be sure yet. I was hoping to pick it up today, but my local shop didn’t get it…

        • Aoshi00

Just tried the 360 demo, quite amazing, I think Patrick Stewart stole the show. It controls pretty well, wonder if there’s any truth to what IGN said, I haven’t read those guys in years, or if installing would help.. yea, there was no option to change voices, I hope it would be on disc as well.. The Eng voice acting sounds stellar except I think Gabriel sounds a little too soft, I know he’s trying to save his lover and all.. well, the presentation and graphics trump Dante’s Inferno, at least from the parts in the demo.

    • Kris

      Thank you so much! :D

I must be sleepy because I swore I read something else there at first. Like something out of a Dave Chappelle skit…

I’ve played the Euro PSN demo already. The demo itself seems very God of War/Dante’s Inferno-ish, which isn’t a bad thing, but I’m a bit worried that that might be all there is to it. Hopefully the demo isn’t indicative of the whole game.

  • I’m psyched to play this… My Xbox is broken, but I’m getting a job, and therefore a new one.

  • Am I missing something on how to play the game or something? I’ve played both the PS3 and the 360 demo and I just did not feel like it was a Castlevania game… Wargs, Lycantrhopes and Daggers do not make a God of War/Dante’s Inferno game into a Castlevania game.

    Pretty graphics or no…

    • Kris

I don’t think you’re missing anything! I think Lords of Shadow might annoy a number of Castlevania fans. Story-wise, it didn’t feel very Castlevania-esque to me at all, and the gameplay had a strong GoW vibe to it (although, I thought it was pretty good!).

Its hard for me to adequately explain why I liked the demo so much as a Castlevania game, but there was something in it for me that almost felt like the spirit of Castlevania’s in 3D. It just felt to me like it had the right balance of enemy attack damage, evasion, and spectacle. Whether I’ll still think that when I’ve played the full game is up in the air.

Maybe it’s also because I went into the demo with no expectations. Who knows.

      • Thank you for the reply! I still want to play the full product. No game like this feels great in the demo stages like this so I’m honestly willing to give it the benefit of the doubt there. I just thought it’s have a little more of a Castlevania feeling is all.

  • ThunderGod_Cid

Doesn’t this game come out tommorrow?!
And they’re releasing a demo NOW?

    • Aoshi00

Better late than never, and just in time too, I doubt it’d change my purchasing decision though :)
