Square Enix To Release Orchestrated Xenogears Album

Renowned composer, Yasunori Mitsuda, best known for his work on Xenogears, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, is working on an orchestrated Xenogears music album for Square Enix. But wait! They want their fans to tell them which tracks to include.

 

Square Enix members in Japan can head to the voting page and choose up to a maximum of three songs. Presumably, Mitsuda wanted English-speaking fans to be aware of the soundtrack as well, as he tweeted on the matter in English.

    I’m always up for a nice soundtrack, but how about you release Xenogears on the US PSN while you’re at it, Square?

        Release of games on PSN is usually up to the developer/publisher.

        It’s just a matter of putting it into a PSN format and formally submitting it for approval :) (among other miscellaneous things)

      Xenogears on the PSN is never going to happen in America. The game doesn’t emulate well. There are quite a few bugs they’d have to fix. They probably wouldn’t want to put the effort into it.

      I get so fed up with waiting for some PSOne re-release on PSN, that I just decide to CFW the PSP and be able to play PSOne ISO

    I want to draw stupid conclusions from this announcement like: ” This must mean that it’ll be released in PSNs all over the world! I’m sure of it” or “Oh man, this must mean that they’ll be making a remake!!AWESOME.”. But that would be… you know, stupid.I wouldn’t mind the PSN thing, though.

    Knight of Fire, Emotion, and Bonds of Sea and Fire would be my three choices.I’d say Grahf, Emperor of Darkness would be my fourth choice and is probably going to be in there anyways because it sounds like it was made to be in an orchestra. I’m sure there aren’t just three songs going to be in there and I know some people will choose that one(atleast I hope some people choose that one.)

    I wonder if they’d consider releasing the album on the PSN, like some other soundtracks. Since he wants the english-speaking audience to be aware of it, I would think he’s not asking us all to import it. That’s pricey.

    And here I thought S-E completely washed their hands off of any new Xenogears related stuff.

    I’d rather get a new chapter of Xenogears. (Xenosaga don’t count)

      Washing their hands? Not at all. I’d also think that’s why there’s not going to be a new Xeno game.

      It’s more like TT doesn’t want anything to do with SE anymore. TT is currently the head of MonolithSoft, which is now a developer for Nintendo. There are rumors that he left on not-so-good terms with SE.

        Those rumors aren’t true. Back before Episode I came out, he said in interviews that Monolithsoft and Square were on good terms. That’s likely why they didn’t sue for copyright infringement with Xenosaga.

    That’s cool. That would be even cooler if I’d played the game, but I suppose it will be remade or rereleased eventually so it’s good to know that this album will be waiting for me when I finish the game.

    Let’s see… 1-19. 死の舞踏 (Stage of Death), 1-03. 海と炎の絆 (Bonds of Sea and Fire) and 1-23. lost… きしんだ かけら (Lost… Broken Shards) would be my choices. 1-12. 憧憬 (Emotions) 1-13. グラーフ 闇の覇者 (Graaf, Emperor of Darkness), 1-16 盗めない宝石 (The Treasure Which Cannot Be Stolen) 2-03. 紅蓮の騎士 (Knight of Fire), 2-17. 神に牙むくもの (One who Bares Fangs at God) could be my alternates just in case I change my mind after signing up… Actually there are too many alternates to choose from, it’s all too good to pass up.

    Edit: Shoot, I forgot I did sign up to be a member, but if he’s asking English speaking members to vote then why isn’t it available in all regions?

    There are too many excellent choices to count. I know I’m heavily biased here, but Xenogears is probably Mitsuda’s best work to date – which is saying a lot since he has brilliant albums on his record. If this is going to be a concert, I’d take off time for work and go to it.

    I’d really want a next-gen Xenogears remake. ;___; with more attacks, ethers, gear options, etc… And of course, for the whole story to be expanded on the way it was written, not the little “story” format that it used during the second part of the game. It would be mind blowing.

    This is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. I can’t believe they’re doing this after all these years. I wonder if this is alluding to some future Xenogears activity . . .

    Interesting. I was thinking how the latest SE orchestral album Symphonic Fantasies made use of the Chrono games, but not Xenogears for the Mitsuda-oriented track. This will more than make up for that.

    I’m glad that Square Enix is finally acknowledging that the Xenogears soundtrack even exists. I’ve always been annoyed by how they always overlook it, especially when it comes to things like new albums and concerts. I was really disappointed that it was overlooked at Symphonic Fantasies. I would have much preferred Xenogears music to the Chrono Cross music they played.
