By Ishaan . October 9, 2010 . 12:36pm

Here’s an actual announcement to make up for the fake Marvel vs. Capcom 3 rumours earlier today! Oh, and in case you’re wondering, M.O.D.O.K. stands for “Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing.” Seriously.

Here are videos of the two in action.

And here are screenshots:

I think M.O.D.O.K. would be a lovely name for my son!

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Is it bad that I misread “Metal Orgasm Designed Only for Killing” at first glance? Having no prior knowledge of this character, he reminds me of Krang from the old Ninja Turtles. Those two thoughts just don’t go well together.

  • Chow

Not really digging Magneto’s new Patrick Stewart-ish voice. I mean, I guess it suits him and all, but I liked his raspy villanous-sounding voice from before.

    • ThunderGod_Cid

That’s Tom Kane; he did Magneto’s voice in Wolverine and the X-Men.

    • xxx128

yeah old maggie in cota was badass

  • ECM

Nice. I always had a soft spot for the MODOK character design, though I’m not entirely sure why.

(Of course, the downside to all of this is that the graphics just look kinda dead to me (give me sprites, damn you!) but I guess you can’t have it all.)

    • Code

What I always laughed about with his design is when he has the joystick and buttons that he types on, you’d figure what with being inside a giant super computer flying keg this stuff would be done through his mind or something, without having to take up use of his hands. Also as much as I am pro-sprites (which is like 99.9% of the time) MvsC2 had a terrible low amount of frames per animation for it’s characters. I’m a little more supportive of them going this route, given the tremendous amount of work it’d be to bring this into HD 2D sprites, with animation up to this generations standards.

      • ECM

Agreed, but in my happy fantasy dreamworld, we’d have sprites and Disney-caliber animation to boot :)

        • Code

rar, I like this world, can I go too hamster-pilot-guy!?

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Well, you have to consider just how many characters were in MvC2. Then again, look at SNK… they’re practically broke but they managed to crank out KoF XIII (XII was GT5 Prologue), featuring 30 decent-res, fairly well-animated, but very detailed sprite-based characters on hand-drawn backgrounds. Capcom is nowhere near broke.

Can’t disagree with you though. 2D is just not cost-effective, and not a wise move if they want to attract more casual players in this day and age.

        • Code

Yeah, this is a case of picking your battles, tackling a project like this in 2D in this day and age, and to not be below the current bar for animation quality, I think an immense amount of time would have to be spent. I mean MvsC2 was alright for the time (back then it was even on the low end animation wise) but it was alright trade off for it’s huge cast and everyone kind of got that everyone understood. If Capcom wants a huge cast and to release the game in a decent time frame this is what they’ll have to do, so I guess I’m alright with it.

  • I wish they have Dead Rising 2 guy, and somebody from Killer7.

    • Code

Killer7 is owned by Grasshopper Manufacture, not Capcom, they were only it’s publisher.

    • I’ll take Mr. Gold and Mr. Silver, personally.

  • I just watched an interview with Seth Killian and he said that M.O.D.O.K isn’t the crazy mind blowing Marvel character that he talked about awhile back…..I wonder who that’ll be!

We’re at 26 outta the “rumored” 40-42 or so characters so there’s plenty of slots left……13 of those 26 were new, 14 if you count VJ since he was never in MvC series. From those numbers, I’m guessing we’ll probably get a little half and half of old and new…maybe just a few more for the newer I guess? Sounds like a nice plan imo.

  • xxx128

I would have had a mental orgasm if the graphics wouldnt look so damn unattractive.

    “Mwahahahaha. X-Men. Welcome To Die!”
