Fighting Game Characters Make Their Voices Heard On Twitter [Update]

You might recall Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono’s recent encounter with a particularly enthusiastic fan of Poison from the Final Fight series. Well, he (she?) is back again.

“Poison” posted the following picture on Twitter the other day:

As one would imagine, the image was met with comments such as: “So hot and sexy!!!!!………… oh and Poison looks cute too!! lol jk :P”

Poison isn’t alone, however. As Ono’s already successful endeavours to interact closely with fans on Twitter gain more traction, he’s also been receiving messages from other videogame characters, including a user that goes by the username “@Anna_Williams,” referring to the character from Tekken.

One tweet from Anna said: “You need to put me in [Street Fighter x Tekken] SFxTK with my sister Nina. You get both of us or neither! ♥ Got it? ♥” To this, Ono gracefully replied, “I ask it to Nina. Thx ;D ”

Tekken series producer, Katsuhiro Harada, has been interacting with Anna, too. In a recent tweet, referring to the Tekken movie, she asked: “Mr. Director, they turned me and Nina into a couple of whores for that crappy live-action movie. Who’s responsible for this?!”

Harada’s reply came in the form of a swift get-back-to-work. He fired back, playfully: “Anna, you are our character/staff. Finish work first!!”

(With regard to the Tekken movie, I do recall a tweet a couple weeks ago from Harada saying that he and his team weren’t the least bit involved with the movie or its conceptualization.)

And finally, out of nowhere, a few R. Mika (Street Fighter Alpha 3) fans have been crawling out of the woodwork of late as well. One such fan, upon noticing a tweet from Ono where he joked about liking R. Mika, asked: “R. Mika ever coming back?”

Unfortunately his hopes were dashed moments later, when Ono replied: “I keep it up for coming back R.Mika! But, every Director said “dont need her”…. ;( “

I asked Ono if he wanted to make a new studio with me called Noriono Games (when he went to Sony CEA, his visitor tag read Yoshi Noriono). He then asked if it would be sponsored by Sony CEA and I said that if we get together, they’ll surely back us up.

You should have said that you have a bottomless wallet.

Ah, I’ve always been a fan of Anna. Nice to see her getting some love, too.

It’s always fun and funny to see fictional characters on Twitter, provided the impersonator does a good job and stays in character… it’s like… some form of digital cosplay. Bonus fun when the creators aren’t too stuck-up to humor them.

Too bad R. Mika is unpopular (probably because of tier). What a fun, wacky character. She should have entered a Power Instinct or Waku Waku 7 tournament instead of Street Fighter…

rar, I’d love to see R.Mika in SSF4 she’s a giant girl full of suplexes, what’s not to love~! Although seriously Waku Waku 7, maan it’s been so long since I played it, it was always a blast, made me sad there was never any follow up for it.

There… kinda was, it just was totally different and all of the fights were fought in the sky. Look up Astra Superstars sometime, it’s pretty cool!

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Dang it, now I feel obliged to mention some other cool, obscure 2D fighters that deserve a better fate. Asura Blade, Rabbit, Asuka 120% BURNING Fest, Cyberbots, Metamoqester, Ninja Masters, Martial Masters and Big Bang Beat(doujin fighter) are just some of the gems out there that no one plays because they’re not competitive.

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Yup R.Mika is eccentric, lovable, womanly and powerful all rolled up into one.

The only fighting games people care about now, and therefore has any chance of success, are the ones that can be competitive online and used in competitive tournaments. That’s why there’s no place for games like Waku Waku 7 anymore. Shame. :’(

Too bad. I play fighting games because I like them, I don’t care about competing. :

When is SFxT and TxSF supposed to come out? Isn’t one going to be like a year ahead of the other?

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Yea, Harada and team are busy with Tekken Tag 2, so less of their resources are devoted to TxSF. I wonder if Tekken 7 will be made any time soon?

Ono and Harada tweets are always fun to read on Twitter since they’re really involved with the fighting game community. Their random little competition here and there is one of my fav things on Twitter. :)

And I hope “Poison” succeeds lol!
