Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle Has Two Timelines

Interesting fact: Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle wasn’t always for the Nintendo 3DS. The last title in the Layton prequel trilogy was originally being developed for the original DS and Level-5 decided to rebuild the game from the ground up for 3DS.

Mask of Miracle is set one year after Layton and his apprentice, Luke, meet. During the game, you’ll follow two separate (but connected) timelines: one in the present with Luke and Layton, and one in the past, during the professor’s younger days.

Like all Layton games before it, Mask of Miracle will feature post-release downloadable puzzles. Level 5 are promising one new puzzle every day for a year after the game releases. This is ambitious even by Level-5 standards, who delivered one new downloadable quest a week in Dragon Quest IX for a year after launch.

  • This sounds quite engaging, I somehow missed the series on the DS so have not played any of them, but if this one is engaging enough on the 3DS maybe it will pique my interest.

LOl its really hard to find a game that have furigana in it. well at least the kanji in this game is drawn well unlike kingdom heart’s:P

  • The plot for this series is very interesting. But I am not a fan of puzzle games

  • ….I like the 2D style better for character portraits hm…

but there are also going to be proper cutscenes, that’s probably why they decided to choose the 3d models for portraits

      • So they’re not going to use animated ones? Or are you talking about like…small scenes?

        • SupaPhly

oops, I meant small scenes, thanks

  • It’s good I have a family member that plays Layton games. While the design is lovely, it’s too much of a one time experience series for me to actually buy the games.

Still need to pick up Diabolical Box and Unwound Future. I am so behind in my purchases. D:
