Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Trailer Now In English

By Ishaan . October 21, 2010 . 9:25am

Not much to say here, aside from, “If you didn’t watch it before, make sure to check it out now.” Snake Eater 3D is one of two games Metal Gear creator, Hideo Kojima, is presently involved with. The other title is super-secret, but he did throw a few teases out last week.

  • There are so many things That Would be VERY cool in 3D!

  • MrRobbyM

That was cool and all(though kinda gimmicky). but I still want my MGS HD collection.

    • Guest

Right. Because all these “HD” remakes are sooo necessary. I understand these releases for some games like Ico but you can easily go and pick up a copy of any of the MGS games and they don’t look terrible or need an upscaled PS2 game in “HD”.

  • I really want to see that in 3d. Most 3d movies are badly made just to jump in the 3d bandwagon, but Kojima seems like he knows what to do with 3d

Guess we won’t be needing that Solid Eye anymore!

  • NeoTechni

Anyone else notice the huge graphical downgrade between this and the screenshots we’ve been given earlier?

    • Guest

      It’s a low quality youtube trailer…..

      • NeoTechni

That doesn’t explain the huge changes, look at the detail in the uniform. The unblinking eyes, etc.

        • I Also Think It’s the quality of the video
I mean.. Why would Konami downgrade the graphics -.- ?

          • NeoTechni

I’m sorry but youtube doesnt remove things like that or change colors.

“Why would Konami downgrade the graphics -.- ? ”

Cause the game engine couldnt handle hat the screenshots showed. Think of it like the Killzone demo for PS3. How they made it to what they thought PS3s specs were.

          • Tom_Phoenix

Well, the game is actually still in very early development. The screenshots we were given at E3 were from a tech demo Kojima Productions made specifically for the event. The reason why it was just a tech demo is beacuse, back then, they haven’t even decided what the MGS game for the 3DS was going to be. It was only recently that they decided and confirmed that it was indeed going to be a port of MGS 3.

Considering this, it’s possible that (unlike the tech demo) this trailer was made with the game as it currently is, which means that most of the assets are probably still freshly dumped and unaltered from the PS2 version. Of course, there is always the more sinister option that Kojima Productions is attempting a bait-and-switch on us and have intentionally made the game look better than it actually is. :P But somehow, I just can’t imagine a technologically-driven studio like Kojima Productions pulling a stunt like that. Besides, assuming this is actual in-game footage, it makes perfect sense for the game to look worse than intended at this stage of development.

@Tom_Phoenix: Except the video here IS the tech demo in question. Honestly, I don’t see much of a change in the graphics. I think the screenshots are just rendered differently from the trailer seen here.

          • Tom_Phoenix

@NeoTechni: Hmm, you are right, this is the tech demo in question. My (very stupid) mistake.

Maybe the trailer was produced well in advance and the screenshots were of a more polished design?

          • Tom_Phoenix

            Sorry, I meant gatotsu911. GAH!

Anyone tired of seeing this idiotic comparison again? Like I said, it’s from the scene later in the demo, here’s another comparison: From right here @ ~7:19: the official screen was taken at a different part of the scene or better yet, I even admit it might be closer to another scene that uses similar lighting like when guy is looking for his cigarette pack (note: I said closer to, not exactly) since the lighting is in front of Snake’s suit in the official screen but from behind in my capture and the camera is at a different angle, but we already know the camera could be rotated in the demo and aside from minor differences like those it’s almost the same here. I don’t see why you keep trying to prove that it’s not from this demo when it very clearly is, the lighting is just not similar in the part you decided to capture and it’s not hard to see how the lighting changes throughout the entire thing. The point of the demo was to prove what Kojima Productions could do with the hardware in 3 months and they did an incredible job, there shouldn’t be any dispute about whether that screen is from this demo since it’s well within their capabilities to produce something of this quality and we know 3DS is capable of modern effects as well.

    • NeoTechni

youre going to talk about idiocy while pretending the first half of the video doesnt exist?

i wasnt denying where the screenshot was from
i was saying the new footagge that actually shows gameplay has been downgraded graphically

      so youve proven nothing

  • joesz

they better have the “snake eater” in it or I’m not buying this.

    • GamerKT

Of course they will. The song Snake Eater is half of why MGS3 is awesome. Yes, half. That song fucking rules.

    • Jellybit

That song was in the trailer, so I assume it’ll be in the game.

    You’re crossing a suspension bridge.
The bridge is wide enough for only one person to pass at a time.
A man is approaching from the opposite side.
    He’s carrying a gun.
    – I shoot him.
    Suppose he’s your husband?
    – I shoot him.
    In self-defence?
    – To spare him the grief.
    – One must die, and one must live.

  • Aoshi00

While the 3D looks veryy cool and MGS3 is one of my favorite in the series (or just games in general), if it’s just a port, I’m not sure if I want to play it again on a portable. It’s very cool they did the Eng. lip sync again, like MGS4 or FF13, I hope they do custom lip sync for each dub for all games from now on.

  • eliel

after now rewatching this in english i hope the 3ds has demo support like XBL and PSN
