Is White Knight Chronicles: Awakening of Light and Darkness Being Localized?

By Ishaan . October 26, 2010 . 8:24am

Voice-actor, Wally Wingert, has a number of high-profile roles under his belt. He was the Riddler in Batman: Arkham Asylum, Mr. Gold and Mr. Silver in God Hand, and…wait for it…Jon Arbuckle on The Garfield Show.

Now he’s playing a role in “the latest White Knight Chronicles game,” which we assume is Awakening of Light and Darkness‚Äč for the PlayStation 3. The information comes via Wingert’s blog:

“WOW! This was a crazy day! It started out with a long trip to El Segundo to the Mattel building. I’m voicing yet another new toy (can’t tell you any more about it unfortunately) but it’s going to be a good one! When I finished up there, I went to Atlantis studios in Santa Monica. When I was doing the latest “White Knight Chronicles” game, we had forgotten to grab a couple of lines. So I went in, did 3 takes of 3 lines and was out in under 5 minutes. WILD!”

Sony still haven’t officially announced White Knight Chronicles: Awakening of Light and Darkness for a localized release. Here’s what the intro movie looks like.

Thanks for the tip Devin!

It’s also possible that this is the PSP game (Dogma Wars). I’d think the PS3 sequel is more likely, and if I had to choose one I’d definitely go with the PS3 game, but you never know…

And I liked WKC a lot. So this is great news to me!

  • Akimitsu

I’m hoping for either, but if I had a choice, I’d want it to be WKC2 for PS3…

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

I’m not really excited about WKC, but considering that the second one has a copy of the first, maybe I would eventually buy it, at a lower price…

So I guess this is good news.

But still, this game looks so bland and generic =/

    • we still dont know if our release will have a copy of the 1st one, and the online stuff was pretty cool, it even reminded me of dot hack games.

But i really, really hated Leonard… god

There is no reason for them to release it without it though. It includes enhancements and people who played through the first don’t have to replay the original as the trophy list and save are compatible. Sony can just as easily release this as WKC: Collection or just sell it as WKC2 with the original being a bonus bullet point on the back cover (like Japan). Unless these two games take up a whole 50GB disc (doubt it) the only reason to cut the enhanced original would be to make room for the JP voice tracks, and we all know the likely hood of that happening.

        • Because they’re already selling the original as a full-priced product. Why would anyone buy that if they can just get both of them together? They’d be killing sales for it completely. Now, I can see them doing a Limited Edition bundle or something, but I don’t think standard NA WKC2 will come with WKC1.

        • AdamBoy64

Yes, this makes sense. Imagine how ticked off people would be when they buy WKC2.. only to find they can’t play it at all without buying another game. That’d be a complete joke, and a big ‘screw you’ to everyone, really.

I’m not sure if the WKC is still on the production line, but by the time WKC2 comes out in however many months (assuming it does), it’s quite likely it won’t be.

      • I seriously doubt it’d have the original game in the NA version, unless they want to 100% kill all sales for that version.

  • I guess we will see it on the Blog in due time. I think I missed the WKC because it seemed like it was a game that only existed perpetually online and had no single player component, but I never did look into it.

    • neo_firenze

WKC has a full single player game, in addition to the online mode.

The single player game has full story just like any other RPG, but in the field and battle it feels a lot more like an MMO (to me it feels like a single player FFXI). It is a fairly short game, but I found it really fun. If you haven’t played WKC by now, it might be worth holding off to see if WKC2 comes to NA with the original game included (as the Japanese one does).

    • You’d probably like the single player campaign, as I found it too easy.

  • Argggg i have to level up online before this goes out

  • kupomogli

I hope the first game is also included. No reason to buy the first if that’s the case.

  • If you look at his page under the 4Gamerz, it shows a WKC cover for the PS3 in his voice acting in games list…

  • joesz

I hope this game will get localized soon. instead of 2 years gap.
White Knight Chronicles 2 was much better then White Knight Chronicles 1 IMO.

  • Draparde

I’ll be grabbing this if it comes with the first one…(it had better if you still have to beat the first one to play the second…)

  • AdamBoy64

I too am wondering whether this is speaking of the PS3 sequel or the PSP game. I’d be all over WKC2 if it got localised. At the moment I’d say it’s my most wanted game on any console.

So, gees, I hope it’s true.

    • thebanditking

No way would it be the PSP game, given that the game is not even out in Japan and PS3 presents a better market for Sony with WKC in the west. my bet would be they give the PS3 another shot before trying to use the PSP to get the series noticed. Given the potential life left in the PSP I wonder how many of these unfinished games will actually see release. I am betting on a good chunk of them switching to PSP2, unless the PSP2 has a UMD drive and backwards compat.

      • AdamBoy64

Yes, I see what you mean. Even if, the hilariously unlikely scenario, that they were doing both sets of voice acting at the same time (JPN/ENG) for a simultaneous release, it still seems too early.

Never been so happy to be corrected.

  • AdamBoy64

Do you guys make anything of this… Daniel Taylors (Leonard’s English VA) resume has him listed as doing “White Knight Chronicles 1 & 2”

    • SAFD certified (Single Sword and Unarmed Combat)
Being a VA, is not easy

  • thebanditking

I sure hope Sony is working on this, I stopped playing the original because of the tweaked remake on WKC2’s disc.

  • I actually liked the first one so if I’ll buy this one too.
