ShmusicUp Creates Bullet Hell Patterns From MP3 Files

By Ishaan . October 28, 2010 . 5:29pm

ShmusicUp — or Shoot-music-up — is a vertical scrolling shoot-em-up where enemy bullet patterns are generated based on MP3 files chosen from your music collection. In development at Singapore-based startup, Tzai Entertainment, ShmusicUp is being classified as a hybrid of a rhythm and shoot-em-up game.

ShmusicUp is still in development with no announced release date so far.

Audiosurf + bullet hell = pretty entertaining idea. I’d play that, definitely.

Now that I’m in the mood, off to play some Touhou…

    • neocatzon

so, if we play ZUN music in this game, we can get Touhou class bullet hell?

      • PersonaBull

You better believe I was planning on it anyway! Hahaha

      • kactaplb

*Yawn Compared to touhou and other danmaku games, this looks so easy. I would have to be comatose/blindfolded to fail.

The only other game to come close to this(but not quite get there) is Beat Hazard.

  • Mark Shaver

That sounds Pretty awesome but isn’t threre a game like this already? Audiosurf, as I read in a comment. My Songs are pretty varied and awesome So This cold be pretty sweet.

    • Belenger

There’s also music mode from the not so long released Space Invaders Infinity Gene on PSN and XBLA.

      •!/SplashdownTiger STiger

I just noticed this but… Why hello there Ikaruga icon.

    •!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Audiosurf and Beat Hazard are NOTHING like this.

  • Linka

    I love games like these.

  • Kyle D. Johnson

I think any song from Dodonpachi is automatic Hell mode for this.

  • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Oh, man. Imagine playing this while listening to Old Man’s Child…I want this game asap

  • Ian Chamberlin

Cripes, that’s probably going to be my THIRD music game that generates content from music (the first two being Audiosurf and Beat Hazard). I kind of like this trend.

    • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

I’ve heard of Beat Hazard. Isn’t that like Geometry Wars synced with your music?

      •!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Pretty much. I played some hardcore Japanese trance and the end result was some pretty hectic gameplay.

  • Hiryuu

Didn’t we see this in manual mode with Danmakufu?

  • Testsubject909

This and Warning Forever should have childrens.

  • Jason Alfred Coolstyles

I’d hate to play a typical Dream Theater song to this music… a bullet hell that’s 40 minutes long seems a bit much…

  • Code

rar, I dig this idea, it was one of the reasons I was interested in Space Invaders Infinity Gene but it didn’t quiet pan out as I had hoped. I like the concept but they still have a ways to go before shmusicup will impress me though, you need variety and enemies and bosses — one boss shooting bullet patterns based on music alone isn’t that interesting. Still someone will make it happen sooner or later.

  • goronyan

for a second i though touhou x vocaloid

  • malek86

The whole “create from your MP3″ concept is a bit overdone lately, but this looks pretty cool.

  • darkfeline

    Hatsune miku no Shoushitsu anyone?

  • Ridge

    Interesting! :o
But the gameplay looks abit too.. simple..?
    Still awesome.

  • Albert ‘Akari’ Van Otto

that reminds me with Beat Hazard

  • Mana

I hope they spend a bit more time on presentation. The idea is sound, the looks however just don’t make me want to revisit it over and over again with new music.

  • Ashgail

Oh man, hope this gets released on PSN/XBL.
And why does the cover girl resembles miku =..=

    • malek86

Ahah, I thought that too. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence, either.

  • Bruno aka CLëF/Jezuz

I cant wait to play the entire Gaga’s Fame Monster lol
