Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen Is A 2D Fighter

Namco Bandai are taking their sweet time rolling details out on their new Rurouni Kenshin fighter for the PSP. A new page on the game in this week’s Jump magazine throws us a few more tiny clues about the game.

Titled Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen, the game is confirmed to include Kenshin, Saito, Sanosuke, Aoshi, Kaoru and Yahiko so far. The last two were revealed this week.

There’s still no word on what arcs of the manga the game will cover, but if you look at the bottom-left corner of that Jump page, you’ll notice Kenshin performing the “Amakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki,” a technique he learnt only halfway through the Kyoto arc.

Also, in the screenshot with Kenshin and Sano to the left, it looks like there’s an arc of ink or paintbrush colour following the swing of Kenshin’s sword, sort of like the art style Street Fighter IV uses. Artwork on the game’s website demonstrates this effect, too.

While the game uses 3D models, Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen is a 2D fighter and is due for release sometime in Spring 2011.
