Marvelous Producer Imagines What Rune Factory 3DS Could Be Like

Earlier in the week, we published an interview with Rune Factory series producer, Yoshifumi Hashimoto, where we discussed some of the improvements and evolutions introduced to the series in Rune Factory 3.

Naturally, we couldn’t resist asking Hashimoto-san about a potential Rune Factory game for the Nintendo 3DS, considering that Marvelous are already working on a Harvest Moon game for the system.

"There are certainly a lot of different things I could think of wanting to add. Since it’d be in 3D, I’d want to make it feel as if you are actually walking through this fantasy world," he told us. "I’d want to make farming a more realistic, 3D experience. Dating would have scenes entirely in 3D."

"I really can’t think of going one-by-one here; I know I’d want to go at it and put a lot of different things in," he continued. "Of course, if you’d like to see these things, please give Rune Factory 3 a try! If Rune Factory 3 succeeds in the West, it makes it a lot easier for us to consider making a new game in the future. I really hope you enjoy it!"

People start fantasizing about 3D gaming on a wimpy portable but no one stops to think about what could be possible on one of the HD console or a PC. Makes my day.

    • Testsubject909

I don’t give a half a damn about 3D gaming, portable or console.

BUT! I will defend ONE item…

Think of this… Shadow Of The Colossus… In HD 3D…

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Then you DO give, at least, half a damn about 3D gaming.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I’m just glad Rune Factory Oceans is coming to the PS3 and I have a chance of playing it in English.

But yea, if I were to choose 3DS RF or HD RF, I’d choose the latter. Imagine a more detailed habitat, more complex town-life cycles, increased content, better AI for the townsfolk, deeper relationships with them, and higher levels of interaction with animals/crops/everything you use that could be possible if developed exclusively for HD consoles…

Dave Vileta, I like how you exclude the PC from the conversation. Typical.

    • vadde939

Because some people (like me) like portables better than HD consoles.

But… Rune Factory started on handhelds and Hashimoto-san is already bringing Rune Factory Oceans to PS3 with PlayStation Move support…

      • HarryHodd

I’m glad Marvelous is finally doing a PS3 game, but let’s be honest here the screens didn’t look that great for what the PS3 can do. I hope i see improvement. For now, I can only imagine what a ps3 exclusive or ps3/360 game would look like from Marvelous.

        • PersonaBull

All the more reason to buy Rune Factory Oceans on PS3 when it comes out. There’s not much incentive to go so far if the sales aren’t worth it.

          • HarryHodd

Oh I’m there day one. No question.

    • PersonaBull

Why are you even bringing up this point? Rune Factory Oceans will be on PS3. You’re getting your possibilities on an HD console (if people even buy it, which is probably why they are selling it on the Wii and the PS3). Buy Rune Factory Oceans on the PS3 and you just may get your specifically for HD RF game.

I love HD games on my PS3 as much as the next guy, but I also love my portables. Which is better, to me, isn’t important. But refusing the possible “wimpy portable” (I believe I saw somewhere it would rival the Wii?) game for the established fanbase of three portable games just because you’d rather have an HD game is arrogant and counterproductive.

    • Tom_Phoenix

Oh, I am sure a lot of things would be possible on one of the HD consoles. It’s just too bad that both HD consoles are difficult to develop for and have a significantly smaller installer base in Japan, giving developers very little power and incentive to explore such possibilities. Plus, as Kashif mentions, even more things would probably be possible on the PC.

Besides, 3D is a more fundamental change than HD ever was. While HD was essentially the same thing in higher definition, stereoscopic 3D brings potential interesting implications as to how we experience games thanks to a greater sense of height, width and depth of objects in the gaming world.

Also, I fail to see what is so “wimpy” about the 3DS. Even though its specs are oriented towards low power consumption rather than sheer graphical prowess, it is still more powerful than last generation consoles. Hardly unimpressive, if you ask me.

  • vadde939

Hopefully the 3DS sees an eventual Rune Factory 4. Consider me excited.

  • eliel

i wonder if they would take out the top view or fixed camera angle like in the RF frontier or RF1 2 3 i like the camera angle as they are, just sayin….

  • PersonaBull

I did my part and got Rune Factory 3 day one! As someone who beat the first Rune Factory and kinda gave up on the second, I can say Rune Factory 3 is quite innovated and evolved indeed. Thinking of how immersive a 3DS Rune Factory could be is exciting. Just think, by the time they make a 3DS title, I’d have my 3DS! If not, this would certainly be a good reason to get one.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Out of curiosity and for possible reference for future titles, how was the English dub (what little there is) for Rune Factory 3? I remember I didn’t like RF2′s voices all that much.

      • PersonaBull

I didn’t like RF2′s voices, either. So far, though, RF3 did a MUCH better job. The voices fit the characters much better, and the tones fit the interactions quite well.

There’s also a pretty hilarious purposefully over-the-top couple of characters, one of whom I’m going for as a wife. Carmen (Ion I believe was her Japanese name) and her brother are quite amusingly dramatic.

I think the most offensive voice acting would be Daria’s, and yet it still fits the character. I just cringe a little every time I hear her yell “RAINBOW!,” honestly.

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Good to hear they’re getting better. Hope this keep this up if Natsume is going to be the one localizing Oceans. Or just include the Japanese track, then I don’t have to worry at all.

          • PersonaBull

Here’s hoping they start including the Japanese track with Oceans. Considering all the extra space they’ll have, at least on the PS3 version, there’s not much reason why they can’t give us the option.

      • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

The dub for the second game was awful. The dub in the third game is pretty good and is more than acceptable. However, the seiyuus they used for the original JP dub is incredible and cannot be compared. Yukari Fukui, Yui Horie, Emiri Kato, and Ryoko Shiraishi just to name a few.

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

          They got Yui Horie?! <3
          Daaang missing out indeed…

  • HarryHodd

I am skeptical of the 3DS until i see it in person.

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

OMG im so gonna buy this game, i cant wait for the next one, and the next, and the next, and the next, AND THE NEXT

  • http://pto.yetikitn.com MelodyKitn

*sniffles* Yeah.. I’ll be broke on my birthday, but I’m not passing up the 3DS if it means Harvest Moon/Rune Factory. On another note, they’re FINALLY releasing Animal Parade here in the UK D:
