By Ishaan . November 16, 2010 . 9:03am

Earlier today, we reported the limited edition of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Here’s a quick recap of what the $69.99 edition of the game comes with:

  • A Steelbook case featuring exclusive art work
  • A 12-page prologue comic/art book, written by Marvel writer Frank Tieri, plus campaign art and a selection of fan art.
  • A one-month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics.
  • 2 DLC Characters – Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine in her Resident Evil 5 battlesuit – available four weeks from launch.

In addition, Gamestop purchasers get an exclusive decal set, featuring Ryu, Wolverine, Deadpool and Dante, that isn’t part of the regular limited edition. Capcom also confirmed a release date for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 today, and the game is coming sooner than you might have suspected.

Originally slated for Spring 2011, the game is now planned for a February 15th, 2011 launch for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America and February 18th in Europe.

“Splendid” seems the most appropriate response, especially given the stage setting in the above image.

  • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Ishaan, you should upload a picture of the new boxart. It looks pretty sweet

  • urbanscholar

Alright gentlemen, operation: can I convince the girlfriend to get me this post V-day is go!

  • skyblaze

  • MemeticRichard

    This is bizarre.

They still have at least 10 new characters to reveal, and the release date is so soon…

    • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

At least ten new characters? They’ve already revealed thirty and they said they were going for around 30 characters since the beginning

      • I dont know where, but I heard they were aiming for 40 and not just 30.

      • raymk

yep they said they were shooting for 40 and the person that leaked the SSF4 roster said they will have 40+ characters and i always kinda knew that they would.

      • They didn’t say “going for around 30” they said, “at least 30.”

        • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Did they? Well that’s awesome. 40 characters would be sweet

          • There could also only be 30. Let that Sink in…

          • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

they’ve already revealed thirty. I don’t think they’d have revealed everyone at this point

      • MemeticRichard
        • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

He says in that neighborhood, so not necessarily 40, but definitely more than 30, which is awesome. I hope we’re not done seeing all-new characters

  • sdragon21

Thank god we have a solid release date!!!

I’ll be pre-ordering the collector’s edition at gamestop on thursday!!!

    GET HYPE!!!

  • You have to wait 4 weeks…to actually get Jill Valentine, I guess at no cost?

How does online work if one doesnt have a DLC character, will they prohibit one from fighting them? I always wondered that.

    • MemeticRichard

As with pretty much every fighting game ever released since the dawning of the 360, PS3, and DLC as a concept…patches. When a DLC character is released, everyone gets a mandatory patch to enable it.

…How can you not know that? =___= Haven’t you played BlazBlue or, hell, SFIV even?

      • Why would they force mandatory patches, that is just rotten. The fighters I have on the ps3, well, didnt have DLC. I avoided SFIV (I heard people are brutally intense online, so I avoided getting it), IM still struggling through BlazBlue 1, Naruto UNS1 and UNS2 didnt have DLC characters.

Im only interesting in MvC3 because there is huge hype behind it and I feel left out if I dont play it

        • Exkaiser

“Why would they force mandatory patches”
Uh, so everyone has the same version of the game? You can’t very well play with someone using a different version, that would be a mess.

          • MemeticRichard

            Dude…don’t even bother lol.

          • Zal_Yagun

Most people don’t know what patches do as console games don’t have changelogs unless you check their sites, but these patches would basically either balance the game, fix problems, or prevent gamebreaking exploits.

For fighting games, patches would make broken characters stronger or weaker, for much fairer fights or add new characters without releasing a new game. Blazblue dlc character is Paid content but patches allow that character to be fought againist without buying her. I think you have a choice on the xbox to patch or not, but you should. Doesn’t take long to

          • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

On xbox live, if you don’t download the patch, it won’t let you play that game online. that way everyone is on the same playing field

        • GamerKT

“Im only interesting in MvC3 because there is huge hype behind it and I feel left out if I dont play it”
          That’s a stupid reason.

          • As I think I greatly detailed awhile back, goodness begets popularity, therefore this game is popular so it must be good. If I didnt base my game purchases on games that were hyped or popular, than my library of games would really only contain Naruto games, racing games, and a rare RPG or two.

Im rather extremely conservative in an approach to choosing what games to buy, so its easy to just ride the hypemobile and buy what seems good based on popularity.

Coming to this site introduced me to different games and changed my wholly graphics based viewpoint on games…

          • GamerKT

“therefore this game is popular so it must be good.”
That’s not how the entertainment business works at all, dude.

          • MemeticRichard

            That’s putting it very mildly.

        • Oh for crissakes. It isn’t rotten. It prevents the additional characters from splitting the online play completely. Otherwise, if you didn’t buy the character, you wouldn’t even be able to play against people who did. And that would be just stupid. It’s bad enough if I play an action game, get an invite from a friend, and then get a message telling me I can’t play on that map because I don’t have the DLC. It would KILL a fighting game if the same thing were to happen on it.

So, just take your patches and like it.

        • shion16

          UNS1 had DLC characters
support character but characters after all

  • Guest

I still think they shoulda put in Date Masamune from Basara 3

  • Was hoping they revealed the Collectors Edition soon, wanted to pre-order for a long while. It’s really good deal compared to some of Capcom’s other Collectors Edition(SFIV, RE5 were pretty crap imo) plus it’s just $10 extra. I’m expecting a lot of DLC for this game if Jill and Shuma are released 4 weeks after the gate. I don’t care as long as I long as I get Gene, Phoenix or John Talbain in one of them.

In a game like the MvC series, you won’t be able to fit all the characters you want in even if you wanted to……MvC2 only had 56 characters because 90% were from past games. Fans always want more characters so DLC is basically a given “and” a wish for this game. I’ve seen a list that people are saying legit and if it’s real, basically 21(22 if new Jill plays differently) new characters made it into the MvC series with 17 of them being completely new….that’s a LOT of characters in a sequel of fighting game if you compare to some others that usually gets around 2-6.

  • Zal_Yagun

Since now it’s confirmed the game will have DLC, people need to crash capcom’s servers with a Flood of Requests.Dammit Capcom add Gene to make a clover trifecta, and Masamune Date to add millions to your Japanese salesAnd Iron fist and … Someone else marvel to match the one eyed dragon of oshuu (I would say wolverine… But yeah)

  • That’s not Jill…It’s a bad copy of Samus…

  • cmurph666

For a second there I thought that Blue Zero was X.

    Now I’m tres sad.

  • Sorry. Too close to Dragon Age 2 for me.

    • raymk

What does a fighting game and an rpg have to do with each other? its 2 different genre’s. i personally think DA2 is going to suck like fable 3 and not be as good a DA origins.

  • ForeverFidelis

    SUCK IT, /V/

  • Hmm, I might preorder this for myself as an early birthday gift.

  • I really want the Collector’s Edition for PS3, but it appears that it’s in one of those bigger DVD-sized boxes, like the Limited Editions of Lords of Shadow and Dragon Age: Origins had. I don’t understand why companies don’t stay with the standard Blu-Ray sized packaging when making PS3 special editions. It worked just fine for the steel case for my DMC4 Special Edition. I mean, it’s only another $10, so it would’ve been worth it.

Oh well, I guess this means I have to pay for the 2 characters separately.

  • Souji Tendou

So…. the hoax news long ago became true, Zero IS in MvC 3.
Wondered if Capcom decides to put him in because of that news, lol.
Anyway, can’t wait to play as him.

  • shion16

it should be wolverine facing ryu
    not ironman
