We knew Tenjho Tenge had been re-licensed by a new publisher following the CMX disaster, but we didn’t know who. At one point, Tokyopop hinted they were rescuing certain CMX licenses, but it isn’t them either.

No, Viz are now taking over publishing duties of Tenjo Tenge (now without the “H”) in North America, and they’re starting over from volume 1, in double-sized editions.

Tenjo Tenge vol. 1 (the original first two volumes collected together) will go on sale on June 21st, 2011 for $17.99 US / $21.00 CAN.”

It looks like Viz are going to be editing the series from scratch as they’re claiming their version is “100% faithful to the original.”

These editions are not the only double-sized thing in TT.

You have made my day better good sir. Thank you.

Ouch. I haven’t bought a Viz title in a long time, but they were notorious for starting to censor a series pretty far along. I know I was buying Midori’s Days from them, and then they decided to censor the last volume. Pretty sure they did something similar with Ranma 1/2. Not a company I would buy a long running fanservice heavy title like Tenjo Tenge from.

I was trying to remember how they censored things. Though I remember Bastard!! wasn’t too heavily censored (all things considered). I suppose you can’t peak inside either, because it’ll probably be shrink-wrapped.

Well I guess this will be an interesting and new thing for VIZ. Especially in some unadulterated pure format and double size with some colored pages.

There is much to be excite for and I will buy as soon as humanely possible.

“”No, Viz are now taking over publishing duties of Tenjo Tenge (now without the “J”) in North America…””

I think you meant “without the H”, because the J is still there. Its the “H” thats missing from “Tenjho”

    • puchinri

I was confused too at first by that, but then I figured they maybe meant the captital J specifically. Then again, maybe not.

      Fixed, thanks. :)

But if they take the H out of Tenjo Tenge it won’t be “100% faithful to the original.”

If only they would pick Bastard!! up again all would be well in the world….

“It looks like Viz are going to be editing the series from scratch as they’re claiming their version is “100% faithful to the original.””I’ll believe it when I see it, Viz. Hopefully you read all the japanese version up to current chapters and know/knew what you’re getting into. We don’t need you to get into a later volume and go, “holy crap, there’s more violence/fanservice than I thought, we didn’t know it would turn out like, oh crap oh crap, quick censor it before soccer moms kill us!” like certain other publishers.
