Namco Porting One Piece: Unlimited Cruise To Nintendo 3DS

By Ishaan . December 12, 2010 . 1:46pm

It’s getting a little…no, make that very…confusing to keep track of Namco Bandai’s plans for the Nintendo 3DS, so here’s a quick recap.

The initially announced line-up included Ridge Racer, an original Super Robot Taisen, a Gundam game, Pac-man & Galaga, and a Dragonball Z game. Of those, only Ridge Racer has any actual media associated with it.

In the following months, Namco also announced Double Pen Sports, developed by Retro Game Challenge developer, Indies Zero, an Ace Combat game, Pro Baseball Famista 2011, and a port of Tales of the Abyss.

Now we have confirmation of yet another game — or another port, rather — in the form of One Piece: Unlimited Cruise SP. Namco are taking their two One Piece: Unlimited Cruise games from the Wii and putting them on the 3DS on a single cartridge.

Unlimited Cruise SP looks like it could be amongst Namco’s first 3DS releases, as it is currently slated for a Spring 2011 release, which is when the 3DS launches.

  • Wow One Piece in the palm of my hands! I guess we have no idea what their plans for America? It would be awesome if we did get this One Piece game.

    • kylehyde

I never think that this day will come, I wished that this day will never come unfortunately is here and I hope that the Gods forgive for what I’m about to say:

I’m 100% agree. That would be awesome.

      P.S I’m just kidding about a paragraph.

  • Port of a wii game…… yay…..

    • Normally I’d be the same as you except it’s One Piece!, my fave manga (aside from JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure) and anime (Aside from GunXSword and Gurren Lagann). Also I’ve got the first Unlimted Cruise game but never finished it, so I’m happy about this news. I’d be over the moon is a European (or even North American) release is confirmed.

      • Lol, well, i wouldnt mind, but they could at least do a new game you know? u.u

        • A new one would be nice…though if they are aiming for worldwide release then its beneficial to places that never got the games.

        • Well hopefully this is a way of seeing how the game handles on the 3DS before risking a new One Piece game. That way they can use what they’ve learned to make a new and good One Piece game. It’s also a good way of getting money for their next project.

Unlimited Cruise had a lot of characters in it. They’re probably waiting for more stuff to transpire in the One Piece universe so the next one actually adds something substantial to the series, instead of being like all the naruto games where they add like 3 characters

Sigh why cant they just make a Saint Seiya game completing the Hades arc

  • Dimentionalist

    All these PORTS! O.o

  • Tom_Phoenix

You know, Namdai, while it’s nice that you are announcing yet another game, it would be even more nice if you revealed some more details about already known projects.

Personally, I would particularly like to know more about Super Robot Taisen 3D, since we don’t know much beyond Terada’s post-E3 comments.

  • Namco trying to hurt the 3DS with all these ports. How about some new games that you didn’t put on Wii. Soul Calibur, and a Tekken or something.
How about a new One Piece game that covers the Great War ARC.

    • lostinblue

I have to agree. Ridge Racer iPhone port, Tales of the Abyss even if the original wasn’t crap by any means and now this?

They seem to be taking the piss.

    • thebanditking

It’s Namco, what did you expect them to do?

  • DemonicX

Awesome news, but this is pretty bad. Selling us games that were already made..? I’m with TheWon and Only on this one. They need to make something new. Hell, if they want their games on the 3DS, then give us some new Tales games on the 3DS. I’m sure nobody would argue with that.

  • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Awesome. I imported the Wii games and I loved them. So many characters to choose from. The fact that they can put this on the 3DS really bumps up my impressions of the device.

  • I don’t mind getting this as a port as long as It comes to The U.S. Unlimited Adventure was a pretty great game. An anime title no less. Sadly we didn’t get UC 1 & 2 so here’s to hope.

  • This’ll be interesting, I never got to complete this game on the Wii lol :P

  • Considering the high quality of the series, I’d rather have another “Unlimited” series game. But good for all American fans should this see a release there. This was one of the best anime games, and I say that as someone who dislikes the shounen genre.

And in case you want to play it on a bigger screen: Europe got the double pack for the price of one game (or slightly less) this year. Definitely a good import.

When do we get Unlimited Adventure in Europe anyway D:

  • thebanditking

interesting info and another game to add to the list of potential 3DS games but I am still not sold on the system so my excitement is limited. Besides I have way too many DS and PSP titles to play through before I worry about buying another $300 handheld.

  • vadde939

and the only one of those games I care about is probably the only one that will never be localized. :(
