Asphalt 3D: Nitro Racing Has Licensed Cars

While Gameloft hold the rights for the Asphalt series, Konami are publishing Asphalt 3D: Nitro Racing in Japan. Or maybe worldwide…we aren’t sure yet.

Today, Konami updated their official site for the game with screenshots. Asphalt 3D is slated for Spring 2011, which means it could be their first 3DS title out the gate.

Other 3DS titles Konami are publishing include: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Contra, Frogger, a new Pro Evolution Soccer game, Project LovePlus, Pro Baseball Spirits 3D, and an original adventure game called Doctor Lautrec and the Knights of Oblivion.

But back to Asphalt 3D. The game includes licensed cars. The above screen is of a Maserati Gran Turismo S. Other cars shown off on the website were:

Mercedes SLR McLaren Stirling Moss2

McLaren MP4-12C

  • Maserati Gran Turismo S…Are they allowed to get away with calling it that? Won’t it confuses the uneducated racing masses? I mean, Konami are already treading on GT’s toes by having licensed cars *gasp*

    • Sorry, but I don’t really get it, since the Gran Turismo is an actual Maserati model @[email protected]

      Unless… it’s sarcasm.. /gasp

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Thanks for the mini-Car Show Ishaan. Personally I’d take the 599 GTO. What a sexy ride.

Somehow the colorfulness of it all reminds me of the fun, simple arcade racers of N64 days like Cruis ‘n World. All that’s missing are bikini babes at the finish line.

    • And the cheesy announcer from Daytona USA!

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

        • Haha, that’s the exact line I was thinking of, too. :P

  • I don’t know about this one, but the engine looks perfect for a new GTI Club.

  • malek86

How about a Cusco Subaru Impreza ’03? Or a Celica ST205 Rally Car?

I guess they went for the faster models. Oh well. I like speed, but one can’t deny the coolness of decorated cars. Imagine seeing a ST205 in 3D. That would be like a Sega Rally Championship fan’s dream coming true.

On a side note, why do we keep seeing graphics that are pretty much on par with the PSP, if not worse?

    • Tom_Phoenix

Beacuse I doubt Konami intended to push the graphical envelope with this particular title. Also, beacuse they want this to be a launch title.

It’s also possible that this particular game was originally meant for the PSP, but when presented with the 3DS, they switched development over to the new system.

    • NeoTechni

cause 3ds is on par with psp graphically…

      • “We thought about a DS or PSP port when we were considering porting SSFIV to a portable system, but neither system would’ve been able to produce a port that I would be satisfied with,” Ono said. “That’s around the time when the 3DS was announced to us, and we decided that we could produce Street Fighter on that system well enough that everything fun about the series would shine through. There was also the fact that we could use all of its network abilities to help gamers communicate with each other.” [source: Famitsu]

On par with the PSP indeed!

        • NeoTechni

Your post didnt conflict with my statement

  • This game looks weak. I mean, you can’t even see every individual snowflake! And why is there no cupholder in the Mercedes?!?! >:O

    • Tom_Phoenix

      Love the sarcasm. ;)

  • hey, is your site is a gaming site. your 3D wallpaper is so cool. i want to ask you something. is it really possible to make a real car on the gaming design.
