By Ishaan . December 27, 2010 . 8:30am

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II is headed to the PSP in Spring 2011, with a few new additions. One is the game’s mysterious new “Abyss” mode, and Arc System Works are also making new additions to the game’s story.

Downloadable characters such as Valkenhayn and Makoto, as well as μ-12 will be available from the start as well, and Continuum Shift II will also include a Legion Mode like BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger did.

Famitsu has an exclusive first set of screens. Here’s a glimpse of what BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 looks like on the PSP:

  • One of the fighting games that I cant grasp the battle system of. I love the story and characters, I just, well my hands always hurt so much from playing the game. Maybe I will get this since its on PSP and well, my hands wont hurt on the system.

    • You know, the game isn’t even all that complex. You can just take a look at the tutorial mode and stuff.

Seriously, Blazblue isn’t difficult to play.

      • You forget who you’re talking to.

        • Did I ever mention that your avy is simple awesome! lol its awesome dude!!!

          • I knew this would happen eventually…

          • Haha i’ve been thinking about that as well for a while xD, i was like… “when will it happen…?”

      • neon6

Not to mention the Challenge and Training modes specifically designed to help players develop their skills. It’s kinda funny that even though most major companies have softened up their fighting games that people still complain.

    • neon6

If your hands are hurting, then it’s a sign to stop mashing.

    • Aw, that’s a shame. I’m kind of the opposite – I’ve never really played a fighting game before Blazblue but I find the controls and battle system really natural for me. I think the Story mode really helps you to get a feel for all the characters’ moves so maybe play through one of your favourite character’s routes again and experiment with the way you input the attacks? I definitely agree about loving the story and characters, by the way! :D

“BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II is headed to the PSP in Spring 2011, with a few new additions. One is the game’s mysterious new “Abyss” mode, and Arc System Works are also making new additions to the game’s story.”

    • what what?

      • Darkrise

Oh nothing, just the fact that now they say that there will be changes(added) stuff into the story mode itself and that CSII was originally only for rebalancing, making Platinum availible and allowing all the dlc characters to be playable in arcade. So this pretty raises WTF!

        • MizuMikomi

CSII is still for that… in arcades, but the CSII for Consoles (Patch) and PSP will likely have story modes for all three of the DLC characters. Usually that is the difference between the arcade and console/handheld version, more story additions would only be expected.

Since I don’t think anyone would just go out and buy a port/downgrade of a PS3/360 game unless it has a few new things. I’ve no idea why it would be a WTF moment, since most people really did expect this from the moment CS was released.

        • I think the same. Of Course all of this will be DLC in the consoles but that’s the issue in the complains.

  • Guest

For some reason I just havent been able to get into this series…

  • karasuKumo

My PSP is going to be really busy! This’ll be my first Blazblue so I hope it’s good, from the CS gameplay I’ve seen it looks pretty fast paced which is nice :)

  • SneakyHawk

Stupid question but will this have the Story mode from the console versions? I want to make sure.

    • Darkrise

..>.> Of course it will, and there will be more content added to the story that the console doesn’t have and won’t have.

      • Won’t have? You have heard about the CSII patch coming to the console versions, right? You don’t think there’s a reason why it’s not coming until Spring? While there is certainly the possibility that they won’t be patching storymode too, it’s unlikely, considering how much time they’re taking to do it. It was due in November, originally, afterall.

        • Darkrise

Yes I have. Correction, there was no due, there was only a possibility that we were going to get CSII at the same time or a few days later once it released in Japan. What I meant by won’t have, is that we won’t be getting these new “additions” to the story mode itself in CSII consoles. And to clarify things, CSII console patch will only give us platinum, rebalancing the characters, and an arcade mode for all the dlc characters. That’s all, while the psp has the same but with more stuff such as an “abyss” mode and extra content within the story mode.

          • And you know all this for 100% certain? Please point me to an article where they say that we will NOT receive any story additions in the CSII patch. With how certain you use the words “won’t have,” I’m positive you must have an article to back that up, right? Most likely, they won’t have their own story modes, but unless you know it as absolute truth, you can’t say “won’t have.” The correct term would be “most likely won’t have.”

  • PrinceHeir

yes please release this on consoles :D

oh and a Guilty Gear 3 would be nice :)

    • neon6

Arc System Works lost the rights to their game to Sega 2 years ago and if Sega ever thought about continuing the franchise without their input, then chances are they’d whore out the series while having absolutely no idea what they were doing. They did it do Sonic for the past 15 years, so why wouldn’t do it to another good series?

      • I don’t know. Sonic is really the only franchise they’ve done that with. The rest of their franchises, with the exception of Sonic and the abysmal Golden Axe: Beast Rider, Sega have actually been pretty good to their franchises this gen.

      • PrinceHeir

actually Daisuke promised us that there will be a Guilty Gear 3 on the consoles, don’t know when though it’s been a year now since he said it :(

  • Hope the music is as good as the first one. The new modes sound awesome. Continuum Shift had some proper good modes :D

  • MizuMikomi

I expected this from the get go, but its still awesome, of course the sprites are just as bleh as CT portable, but I love portable fighting games… so it really doesn’t matter to me.

As long as the voice clips and music aren’t as muffled as CT Portable’s was, I will be happy.

  • I would love to try Abyss Mode if only my PSP is working since it’s whack out. But it’ll be nice if the game is out for the consoles first.

  • I love how I was wishing for a PSP port of Continuum Shift when I was playing Calamity Trigger Portable, since I don’t have a PS3 or a 360, and then this shows up XD

  • That makes me happy! The PSP version of CT was only released in the UK in November, but the delays meant that the preorder price went down to £9, so I guess even if we don’t get this until 2012 (assuming we do, but I’d have thought it pretty likely by now) at least we’ll be getting a bargain. XD

  • I guess the Platinum Trinity DLC will be out when this game comes out… SWEET!! I may get it that is if ….. well I don’t know. When Platinum is out then yeah uh never mind. :) Still waiting for Platinum Trinity DLC.

  • Thats right suckers!, you paid money for a petty Rip-off of a console version and in the end the portable takes the cake for a sweet deal
