Pre-Order Ys I & II Chronicles At Gamestop For An Ys Artbook Or Soundtrack CDs

By Ishaan . January 10, 2011 . 7:31pm

Xseed’s version of Ys I & II Chronicles for the PSP in North America comes in a special foil box as a commemorative “Hair Metal Pack,” in honour of Falcom’s inhouse JDK band. The Hair Metal Pack includes a soundtrack CD with around 20 tracks from the remastered soundtracks of Ys and Ys II.

If you pre-order Ys I & II Chronicles at Gamestop by January 14th, however, you’ll snag another bonus item of your choice along with the game. Xseed are letting people choose from an Ys artbook, an Ys Seven soundtrack, or an Ys: The Oath in Felghana soundtrack.

Oh, and if you missed out on Ys Seven or The Oath in Felghana, you might want to note that Gamestop currently has the limited editions of both games available at the same price as the regular editions. Ys Seven came a soundtrack and the same art book as the one you’ll get for pre-ordering Chronicles, and Oath in Felghana came with a soundtrack CD and calendar.

My god, XSeed is really going all out to get people to buy these games!

    • The games are great, the soundtracks even better, so why not, I’m all in for it! :D
Though as I already have the limited editions of seven and Oath, I probably will just order it the normal way.

  • But I already have the LE of the other 2 games :(

Hellloooooo, cheap birthday present for a friend

  • neo_firenze

So these are the same items as the ones already included in the Ys Seven and Oath in Felghana LEs?

    • Yes, they are the same items from the previous 2 Premium Editions, so if you have those, unless you want extra or a gift for someone, it’s fine if you order somewhere else.

  • BK0000

I guess XSEED had a lot of leftover bonuses from the LEs for Oath and Seven.

    • falcomgamefan

All the more evidence that these games didn’t sell well, huh?

  • BelmontHeir

So this is a PSP remake of the DS game that was itself a remake of Ys Book I&II for the TurboDuo?

    • MrSirFeatherFang

(sorry I didn’t know when I registered the post would would show up Xd, can I delete this? Thanks)

    • MrSirFeatherFang

      Read below, sorry about this…

    • MrSirFeatherFang

(I’m sorry I had to register and type this like 4 times so I’m going to be brief)
turbuoduo version was a port done by hudson (good port)
DS version was a port of ys I & II Complete (PC) by interchannel (so-so port, but mostly considered bad)
PSP is done in-house by Falcom, so this is basically the best version atm.
ask more questions if you like, this post had a lot of info before, but I got tired of rewriting it lol

      • BelmontHeir

I appreciate your effort! ;D Yeah, I had heard that the DS version was just “ehh.” I’ll just stick with this upcoming PSP one then, as it sounds the most promising.

I didn’t realize that the TurboDuo iteration was itself a port. o_O So the games originated on PC?

        • MrSirFeatherFang

Sorry for the late reply, yes they (the games) did originate on some kind of computer platform and was released somewhere in the late 1980s. Here is a very good history background on the series. Falcom was more of PC dev, until now where, for some reason they have taken a liking to the PSP.

I haven’t read every single piece of the article word for word, but I have read most of it. Very informative and was updated somewhere in December I think.

Very good site for other things too. Anything else you need to ask? Also I have been going to this site for a while, but your post was just needing someone to answer it and I couldn’t leave it alone lol

      • SolidusSnake

Damn, if you registered just to talk about Ys then you’re cool! Balls of steel!

BTW I had never played an Ys game til Ys 7 came out for PSP.

      • Glad to know I wasn’t the only one that thought the DS version was meh.

I’ll definitely get this if I can afford it…

  • BOO

    • Ladius

Instead of spamming Rich’s message on all news’ boards why don’t you send a mail to Siliconera in order to let them know of it? Maybe they will use this piece of info for an article, and that would be far more useful to make it known to Siliconeran users.

    • SolidusSnake

Do you really work for Bandai-Namco? If so, I can guarantee you that 98% of the messages you’ll get from this community are “LOCALIZE TALES GAMES NOW PLOX” not that there’s anything wrong with that :3

      • Ladius

He isn’t Richard, he is just copypasting a facebook comment hoping that fellow Tales fans take notice. That in itself isn’t wrong, but spamming in unrelated news isn’t the best way to do things.

        • SolidusSnake

          Such a troll ;_;

I could probably forgive him except that he is spamming space which should go to the excellent Ys series, that is UNFORGIVABLE!!!!

      • PrinceHeir

        damn it solidus :(

  • Ladius

Can’t wait for Ys Chronicles and Trails in the Sky ^^

I hope even Trails will have its limited edition, that game seriously need to be marketed more since the Sora no Kiseki series isn’t as known as Ys in the west.

    • True, true Sora no Kiseki is a sweet series itself. Loved the Ys VS. Sora no Kiseki game too.
Actually, I never knew they planned on localizing it, great news for me! :D

      • Ladius

It’s out the 29th of March, don’t miss it since the future of the series in the USA will be based on the first Trails in the Sky’s sales and if you have the chance spread the word among fellow Falcom fans :)

I will probably buy two copies just to support XSeed’s effort.

    • Ladius, I must agree. I too can not wait for Trails in the Sky and do too hope that it will have a limited edition.

      • Ladius

At this point I belive that limited editions would be guaranteed for Falcom releases, even Ys Chronicles (the least likely to get one) managed to have a premium first-print edition.

Moreover, Trails need to be marketed and a good limited is a nice way to make some headline on sites like Siliconera and get people to talk about the game.

      • SolidusSnake

Damn…. I actually agree with you. If you’re a troll then you are a CHESSMASTER OF TROLLING THAT PUTS LIGHT YAGAMI TO SHAME. Anyway, Falcom FTW!

        • It’s all according to his keikaku

    • Woohoo I really really really want to play Sora no Kiseki. I wasn’t really impressed with Gagharv Trilogy, but Sora No Kiseki looks sweet. Also, watched the trailer for Zero no Kiseki and it made me hope that Sora no Kiseki would do well so that we get Zero :3

  • godmars

Those guys really know how to do a commercial that makes you say “WTF?!” while still delivering the message.

  • PrinceHeir

i hate gamestop, probably the shittiest retailer i’ve ever been to, selling used games as new, over priced games, recycle plastic bags, employers are rude ugh.

why not make it amazon so that alot of people can order it that way?

    • You must be going to the wrong GameStop… only reason I’m irked at them is ’cause three days after the release of Hexyz Force, my copy hadn’t even come in yet. I got my money back and bought it somewhere else that had 3 copies.

  • Kris

Man, I wonder how well bumping enemies to attack has aged… It looks pretty good in this trailer, but I remember being frustrated by it as a kid.

  • SolidusSnake

I hate to be the token grammar-nazi, but wtf is a pre-oder? :D

    • A lot more pleasant than a pre-odor.

  • falcomgamefan

Ys I&II, what a joke! The dated mechanics and crappy play control are still intact, too… I hope this one bombs and turns out to be a lesson to game companies about what not to release. The fact that Adol can’t use his sword and you basically just run into enemies to attack is so retarded from a gameplay standpoint.

If companies are serious about making an action/rpg then they should do it, don’t give us remake crap like this. Sheesh! And now Xseed is giving us leftovers from their old games as a *bonus* WTF? Might as well give someone used toilet paper because that what it’s like.

Why don’t people mention that Xseed was, in fact, too C-H-E-A-P to make a *real* limited edition with this one? Falcom limited editions generally rock, but Xseed limited editions seriously suck donkey balls… I can’t wait to laugh at the crap people are going to get for Tits! I’m sure it’ll be another load of crap…

Damn, how I miss Working Designs sweet hardback manuals, awesome packaging, and the care they put into everything.

Xseed on the other hand, epic fail…
