El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron Boxart Looks Elegant

Ignition Entertainment are releasing El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron on April 28th in Japan. Amazon.jp has a look at the game’s box, which — just like the game itself — looks very pretty in a simple and elegant sort of fashion.

One of the characters in El Shaddai, Lucifel, is god’s favourite angel. He carries a cell phone around with him to maintain a direct communication with god. He also travels into the future to bring items back to assist the game’s protagonist, Enoch, and acts as your guide throughout the game.

  • The box art made me think of Saint Seiya(Knights of the Zodiac in the US)

      Saint Shaddai,
      Saint Shaddai,
      Saint Shaddai,
      Saint Shaddai… IMAKOSO! HABATAKE!

No offense but you’ve made a slight mistake

        Its queer no youni!

That guy he seriously mastered all the techniques in the holy script of Queerfu(referring to the WTFISH moment when I first saw the weird gameplay)

You dare call Brad Pitt queer??

    • Agreed his style reminds me a lot of Saint Seiya too, probably because of the armor :D

  • Fabulous. It’s like the adult version of Takuto the Ginga Bishounen

    • His weapons look really similar to the star swords.
I can’t say if this is hilariously epic or fabulously crazy, but in the end it still is a good thing xD
Though I don’t want to see Enoch dazzling the stage :P

The cover is really nice, it doesn’t hurt the eyes with too much over the top colouring all over the box, and it does have some kind of amazing presence, lol.

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

I guess you CAN “judge a book by its cover”.

  • PrinceHeir

    looks awesome :D

Lucifel. Hah! They could’ve gone with Helel. Though the same person… Guess they wanted to keep the important -el part and make the name far more recognizeable for most people out there who’s unfamiliar with the roots of Lucifer himself.

And as it goes with Japan, R and L are a bit interchangeable. So such a play on the name becomes far easier for them to pull off…

If you’re curious about the -el part, I might be a bit off, but it’s somewhere along the lines of “Of God”. Though I’ve always been far more entertained at the original name Helel suddenly losing the -el portion and turning into Hel.

    Anyhow. Names and semantics aside.

Think we’ll be lucky enough to have that box art? I remember far well some articles stating just how much american retailers detest these sorts of drawing styles on the boxes, believing it drives away gamers as opposed to drawing people in to buy them… (Oh yeah, there’s a lot of hatred for ‘unmanly’ Japanese art.)

Highly expecting a Louis Cypher cameo.

  • Someone’s going to kill me for this.. but..

How much you wanna bet that Enoch will be a boss/antagonist at some point?

EDIT: OH! Sorry, I really meant Lucifel.

    • nyrjin

      Isn’t the main character Enoch?

      • Testsubject909

If Enoch is a Eunuch, the odds are high.

Didn’t Uriel give science to the Eunuchs which in turn brought God’s anger down upon him? Or did I read something wrong?

  • I dont dig the character design; why so

The other accents on the box art looks elegant.

  • Arcm

I have been getting a huge Saint Seiya vibe from this game, I’m going to but it for this reason ALONE!! I’m a little vain I know so don’t judge me. : )

  • 5parrowhawk

You sure that’s enough box art?

…sorry, someone had to say it…

They make it holographic of sorts, where you move the box left to right before you the weapon starts to shift from red to blue as he purifies it with sparkles and transparent feathers flying away from the weapon, closing his eyes as if to pray while an ephemeral aura glows around his being at the same time with his hair flowing.

And that would be the box to cover the actual box, in which when you take out, it looks exactly like the good book in leather, a large cross upon it that shines pure silver with, upon the sides, scriptures in old latin stating various passages of the bible.

And as you open the book-like video game casing, you are taken aback by the faithful recreation of the sixtine chapel’s art made complete upon the interior casing with. On the game disc itself, the portrait of god, so blinding and beautiful, your eyes burn with divine flame at the inhumanly epic beauty and perfection you’ve seen, a light so powerful none could describe.

And miraculously you regain your sight at the same time! And learn never to look at the game disc directly ever again…

Oh and, when you put it in your console, light shines from above and you can hear the choir of the heavens instead of your console’s fan.

  • Looks 16bit era aside from the glowing parts, so that’s a huge plus.

  • Ugh, total groinshot.

  • I want it.
