Bust-a-Move Universe Pops Out On Nintendo 3DS This Spring

Square Enix will have a Nintendo 3DS game out close to the system’s launch as well: Bust-a-Move Universe, part of Taito’s long-running Bust-a-Move series (titled Puzzle Bobble in Japan) is due for release sometime this Spring.

Bust-a-Move Universe is what you’d expect it to be if you’ve played one of these games before — it’s Bust-a-Move with 3D effects. You shoot bubbles upward from the bottom of the 3D screen, at a pile of existing bubbles, and you’ll have to connect three or more bubbles of the same colour to make them pop. Almost like a faster-paced, upside-down Peggle.

Universe includes a 100-second, 300-second or Nonstop Bubbles Challenge Mode. It’ll be among the cheaper Nintendo 3DS games when it releases in Spring. Square Enix are releasing it at $29.99.

Each time I read Bust-A-Move… I keep thinking about Bust-A-Groove…

Are we ever going to get another Bust-A-Groove game? I liked em…

This is what 3DSware is for…
You shouldn’t be paying +$20 for something like this when you can buy a game like this on cellphones for 99 cents.

Oh wow, a square trailer that wasn’t taken down right away because God-forbid someone actually sees it. lol I loved Bust-A-Move and those puzzle games on my DS but not sure if the 3D will be distracting or not. Anyways $30 is too much 3D effects or otherwise.

  • Every time I hear the “Let’s go to Pao Pao island” tune, I have to smile.

Lack of touchscreen ‘pull and release’ controls so far is sad though. Perhaps a bit too easy for the pros, but the family loved this so much in the first DS Bust-a-Move.

Hm, I think I’m just going to buy the newest DS one (BaM Space I believe it’s called) since it looks nicer and has the actual Bust-a-Move characters at the bottom.
