Dead or Alive: Dimensions Screens Look More Alive Than Dead

By Ishaan . January 21, 2011 . 6:02pm

Dead or Alive: Dimensions has quite a bit going for it. The game features a healthy roster of fighters and covers the first four Dead or Alive games from a story standpoint, even adding new scenes to flesh certain events out.

The game also has online play, which is a feature anyone would expect of a fighter in this day and age, regardless of platform. Finally, just yesterday, Tecmo Koei also revealed a collaboration with Nintendo and Team Ninja’s Metroid: Other M, with the Ridley boss stage from the game included in Dimensions.

The only downside to Dimensions so far appears to be that the game’s Digital Instructions feature doesn’t seem to be as well thought-out as the one in Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition. Aside from the handy digital throw and hold buttons on the 3DS touchscreen, the rest of Dimensions’ touchscreen inputs look like they require you to scroll through a long list of moves, which isn’t quite as elegant or effective as Super IV’s customizable touch inputs.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions is a Nintendo 3DS launch window game. Here’s a new batch of screenshots released by Tecmo Koei this week:

    i hate that digital instructions!!!

  • Exkaiser

Personally, I’d prefer to have the list of button inputs available on the bottom screen, but that’s partially because I don’t intend to take advantage of the hotkeys.

Though, I’m probably going to swing for SSFIV 3D instead of DoA anyways, since I like the franchise more and I still haven’t played IV.

Hopefully there’s a bajillion unlockable outfits like DOA Ultimate.

I just have to say wow, this game looks really good to me, about the touch feature, well in some previews I heard that is actually possible to make chain combos with that however the previewer doesn’t left outside the probablity that the enemy AI used in the demo was toned down. I hope that the last statement was true.

  • GamerKT

    Damn, this looks great.

  • Darkrise

Sigh* I’m starting to really want this… But too bad, cuz of Nintendo’s stupid decision to region lock the 3DS and at that price, it’s just not worth it at the moment.

If you have a 4th generation ipod touch, or even any ipod touch, I think you can shell out the money for this

      • Darkrise

        I don’t lol.

    Sexy fighting is sexy…

Man I hope that $50 price tag in Gamestop’s system is a placeholder. I just can’t justify paying $20 more for a game than I did for my last portable.

I honestly think 3DS games are not gonna cost more then $40 (which is about in PSP price range for those games). $35 maybe for some first party titles but I think that’s what it’ll end up being not the $50 being put on placeholders right now I would think Nintendo knows that $50 might be too steep for a handheld title seeing as a console title is $50 on the Wii to begin with…

Sounds fun. Not worried about the digital instruction being great as DoA is a button bashing game. Just have to find decent moves on the DI and stick with it.
