Pokémon Typing DS Announced, Wii and 3DS Pokémon Games In Development

By Ishaan . January 30, 2011 . 3:01pm

The Nintendo DS is getting another Pokémon game, although this one may not quite be what you’re expecting. Titled Battle & Get! Pokémon Typing DS, the game comes with a wireless Bluetooth keyboard that can communicate with the Nintendo DS via a Bluetooth function implemented in the game’s cartridge.

The primary focus of the game is meant to teach children to type quickly without having to look down at the keyboard. However, while Nintendo don’t guarantee functionality, the keyboard that comes with the game can also be used with other Bluetooth devices. Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, says that many within the company are using it with their iPhone and Android phones, and so is he.

Iwata also revealed that Nintendo are working on Pokémon games for the Wii and Nintendo 3DS, which will be announced at a later date. Meanwhile, Pokémon Typing DS is slated for an April release in Japan.

More Pokemon games for the Wii and 3DS? I hope one of those titles in the same vein as Colosseum or XD(mostly XD). I liked those two games, XD in particular.

  • Code

This seems like a really awkward combination, typing applications and portable gaming doesn’t seem like a demographic that overlaps much opo’ Although that keyboard is pretty cute opo

  • Lol, there’s probably going to be a challenge in the game that’s like:
“Type as much Pokemon names as you can within a minute.”

    • Next they are gonna make chips we can put in kids brains so they have all pokemons up to date memorized.

      • I’m quite sure some random kid will have that done for you…
Don’t tell me you didn’t remember the first 150 when you were young? Lying is bad, you know

        • I remember… some, but it was because of the songs at the end of the anime! THEY WERE SO CATCHY, THE KID VERSION OF MYSELF COULDNT FIGHT AGAINTS IT!!

          • Let’s reminisce the good old days…

I know I’m going to have a very nice dream tonight :3

          • Zero_Destiny

CURSE YOU!!! Now when I’m taking my exam tomorrow all I’m going to remember are the original 150 Pokemon!!!! It’s elementary school all over again!!!! lol

    • M’iau M’iaut

And if they do you know some damn otaku hidden away in his 2-mat flat will find a way to get all 649 done.

  • i hope that the pokemon game for the 3DS is gen 6

and the pokemon game for the wii is in the same style as pokemon stadium which i enjoyed more than colosseum or XD

    • Pokemon Generation 6 already?! Wow, when would it come out? 2012?

  • malek86

Looks more like a way for them to sell yet another peripheral that won’t be used ever again.

I mean, who’d want to use a keyboard where the down arrow button is so low, anyway?

  • Please let the Wii finally be that which I have been clamoring for years!! It would be simply phenomenally epic to finally have a true to life console version of a Pokemon Mainline title with battles carried out in Battle Revolution style announcer and all and the world visualized in full glory. Just imagine the amount of playtime and people who would buy, instant cash! Please Nintendo baby, make it happen and I promise that I will be there on Day 1 Baby!!!!

    • A lot of people have been wanting that ever since the first pokemon, pokemon XD: Gale of darkness got close… but was still too far

      • M’iau M’iaut

Gale of Darkness was a difficult sell in the west since at that time little about the depth that actually exists in the Pokemon world had been brought over.

      • I must have missed out on Gale of Darkness, was it really like the games?

        • Zero_Destiny

Gales of Darkness was pretty much the same as the first Pokemon Colosseum game if I remember correctly. There was no wild Pokemon, you had to snatch “Dark Pokemon” and restore them if you want to teach them moves and stuff. On top of that all the battles were like 2 on 2. Not a bad game in fact I regret selling my Pokemon Colosseum games. But not like the Portable games :( Graphics were bad too. Not one to care about graphics all that much but I remember chuckling every time I played it because the graphics were really like bottom of the line Dreamcast graphics. It’s like they had no budget or no idea how to make a 3D game lol

          • SneakyHawk

Actually, XD has wild Pokemon but it works differently. You have to set bait at certain spots and then come back after some time has passed. Just hope that mischievous Munchlax isn’t the only snacking on the bait!

          • Zero_Destiny

Ah I see, It’s been a while. Did it still have “Dark Pokemon” So I don’t look like a complete idiot? lol

          • What i liked is that you could move around, had a MC and a story… but at the end, is just choose and point a place to go, and a little space to move around

          • SneakyHawk

(To your question regarding dark Pokemon here due to hitting the reply limit)

You still capture Shadow Pokemon from other trainers since it’s part of the plot. :P

          • Zero_Destiny

Good my memory’s not as bad as I thought lol

          • Guest

You’ve got me interested in Gale. I saw a copy used…now I’ll have to pick it up.

  • M’iau M’iaut

That Pikachu looks ready to throw down in a boxing match, not some cockfight with 8 year old Michael Vick wannabes. He also looks like some 8 year old fan drew him.

Are we sure that’s not Peekachoo from some Chinese knockoff series?

  • Not surprised…

And… lol at the keyboard? I dont see the point lol…. Well, is another way to milk the pokemon cow…

    • GamerKT

      • Oh, wait, just got the joke, hahahah xD

    • Tom_Phoenix

What do you mean you don’t see the point? It’s a typing game. It would be kind of hard to play a typing game without…you know….something to actually type with. I would understand if your criticism was aimed at something like the Pokéwalker, but this actually seems practical for a change.

If I had one of the popular touchscreen-only smartphones, I would buy this game in an instant just for the keyboard. Fortunately, I have no need for a smartphone and there are smartphones that have an actualy keyboard on them.

  • M’iau M’iaut

They should turn all the Pokemans into zombies and have Sega release this as Typing of the Dead 2!

    • At least Victorique wont get bored this way :D

      • M’iau M’iaut

She needs something to do now that Kujo only has eyes for Avril……

        • Haha, well, things will obviously end pretty bad for Kujo and Avril, but im sure that Kujo is still more interested on Victorique (he is just as stubborn as her :D)

          • M’iau M’iaut

Avril is definitely being handled a bit more direct in the anime. Through the first two translated novels — which are recommended — any hints about Avril aren’t quite that evident.

I’d hope we see more of the books — I know #3 had at one time been solicited. Nozomi/RS seems a good fit for a US anime house; although a NISA double box would work just as well!

  • I wonder if it could work with the Wii. Don’t the Wii remotes communicate output via bluetooth?

  • I’m still waiting for “Pokemon but with animals instead”

That’d create a new Pokemon fanbase

  • joesz

Please Iwata-kun! let it be an rpg genre Pokemon for the wii!

  • Zero_Destiny

Dose anyone get flashbacks of Mario Typing from this? lol

    • Ereek

My school taught typing using the DOS version of Mario Teaches Typing for all grades 2-8, haha. I got the exposure at a later age than some, so I don’t think it was as useful for me as it was others. I remember that I just ended up memorizing the order the letters came up.

It was my first thought when I read this as well.

  • daizyujin

Since Nintendo tends to always make a 3rd version of every Pokemon revision, perhaps this time they will make it more of a 3DS enabled game. Pokemon Grey I guess.

  • Phoenix_Apollo

I will be truly surprised if Nintendo doesn’t localize this. Such is the way of a cash cow.

  • YoFace

Possible changed graphics for the 3DS version? Or will the “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” rule apply here as well.

  • vadde939

I think it will be cool if the ‘third version’ for Pokemon Black/White (Pokemon Grey?) ends up being made for the Wii while the 3DS pokemon games will be gen 6.

  • cass_c

I want that keyboard for my iPhone, rofl. * u*
