Chunsoft Answer 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors Fan Queries

By Ishaan . January 31, 2011 . 9:29am

A while ago, Aksys asked fans for their questions — any and all questions — on 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors so they could send them off to developer, Chunsoft, for answering. Well, those questions are now answered. Lots of them, at that.

If you’ve completed the game — highly recommended, as the replies are heavy on the spoilers — you can head over to this page to view answers to fan queries regarding the inspiration behind the game and more.

  • Already saw ’em all xD, they put mine there, exactly how i writed it lol, i was asking why wasnt there a kawaii CG with junpei and akane at the end T.T

    Also, is it me or he almost hinted into our faces that there may be a sequel with the same characters? I mean, he was always saying that Santa and Akane went somewhere else to get ready for “something bigger”

    • Zero_Destiny

      Oh man if that turned out to be true I’d be so happy. Loved that game.

    • It sounds like the writers have ideas for a sequel, and would like to do a sequel. Whether it actually ever gets made depends on a lot more practical things, like sales…

  • PrinceHeir

    though i haven’t played this, do you think you can ask if they could make either a sequel or another game with similar style? i always love these adventure games :)

    • Zero_Destiny

      You should totally get it because it rocks XD!!!!! And about a sequel *points down to WildArms’ comment*

      • PrinceHeir

        i already plan to :)

        awesome :D

        • Yeah, he repeated a lot of times that it all depends on how things go here with Aksys :P, and i think it has been doing pretty well! Let’s hope that a lot of people are smart enough to get this game!

    With the apparent cult success on 999, I wonder if Aksys is looking into bringing over more Chunsoft titles. Maybe Love Zombie or Shiren 5 or (if they’re really feeling gutsy) 428?

    • I would LOVE to see Aksys handle Love Zombie. I get the feeling the company would do an awesome job localizing it.

  • So much 999 post-game knowledge to absorb :D

    Question 66! This appropriately numbered question is my entry! His answer is really exciting for me.

    14383421 multiplied by 9 equals 129450789.

    1 = Ace
    2 = Snake
    9 = Santa
    4 = Clover
    5 = Junpei
    0 = June
    7 = Seven
    8 = Lotus
    9 = The Ninth Man

    And there you go, the final mystery in the game from the creator himself.

    • neocatzon

      ah, the only thing that’s kinda cheating in this game, two “9” bracelets

      how did I forgot to asked that..

    • Joanna

      Wasn’t Santa’s bracelet 0 though and June’s the second 9? The creator confirmed it in one of the questions too.

      • dusk

        He also said, and I quote,

        “As far as the meaning behind the numbers, I haven’t really told anyone in any other interviews, so I’m going to make this just between us. If you take the number 14383421 and multiply it by 9, you get 129450789. What do all those numbers mean? I’ll leave that up to your interpretation.”

        And so that’s how I chose to interpret it. Hope that clears it up for you!

        • Joanna

          Hmmm, well the part I’m talking about is question 46: “Regarding the theory Snake brought up about June and Santa’s bracelets, was June’s really an upside down “9” and Santa’s a “0”?”

          and the answer was: “This is sort of connected to [question 9] but the official answer is yes. However if we don’t stick to the bracelet’s display, you can also think of it as June=0.”

          So I had assumed he meant the bracelets were June = second 9 and Santa = 0, but beyond the bracelets June = 0. Although I get you on the interpretation part and how the nine is in the third spot and the 0 in the sixth. Leading to the possibility that those numbers represent the true digits of each player instead of the display. So I guess both interpretations are correct and the producer seems to think so as well. :)

    SPOILERS (just in case)

    …Still a few questions that weren’t answered fully…like Alice. If Alice is an image from Akane’s memory/mind then were did that visualization come from? He hints she exists (the Alice in the ending was to show she was a real person) but if so, what purpose is there to that? And if there was a empty coffin…does that mean Alice really was there originally and started walking after she thawed like Ace suggested? So I guess my question is, what point did she serve in the story? And if it was just to introduce ice-9, what point was there in reinforcing she was a real person in the end (since she seemed to have no relation to the nonary game or zero)?

    Also he hints multiple times that June is really a rather ruthless character yet in her flashbacks and Junpei’s, she is basically a sweet girl. So my question is, what made her so ruthless that she would put 5 people at risk just to save herself? The creators hints that it was the first nonary game, but I’m having trouble picturing a sweet girl turning heartless just because of a stressful situation and almost dying. If it’s the threat of death, well, her dying is more abstract than immediate death (i.e. someone coming at you with a knife). She knows she will die if she doesn’t do it, but there is no physiological reaction because the threat is not manifested before her like it is when someone is being attacked. So, emotionally she should feel hesitation at risking 5 people who didn’t do anything even if intellectually she knows she has to do it, yet the creators seems to suggest that she showed no hesitation (i.e. she is the kind of girl who would do anything to get what she wants). And it begs the question, how does she feel about herself becoming exactly the person she hates the most (Ace)?

    If anyone has any theories, I’d appreciate sharing them. thanks. :)
