The Hidden Leaf Hunt The False Nine-Tails In Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive

By Ishaan . February 6, 2011 . 1:27pm

If you’re a Japanese publisher that publishes PSP games, chances are you’ve taken a good look at the success of Monster Hunter. Naturally, your next thought would be to try and replicate that success in your own way. Namco, however, developed not one, but two Monster Hunter-esque games.

The first, of course, was Gods Eater. The second is Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive. The game lets you take a four-man ninja party out on co-op missions as they try to solve the mystery of disappearing Hidden Leaf ninjas. Kizuna Drive also contains new characters created specifically for the game.

Namco Bandai say the game features an original anime opening, too, created by Studio Pierrot. They have Kizuna Drive slated for a Spring 2011 release in the U.S.

    inb4 Day 1 Baby

Has anyone played this game? I’m still skeptical

    • MarkMario

You beat him to it! *Gives you Cookie*

    • Actually, ive seen it is not as good as it looks, way too repetitive, and attacks not very variated.
Like, it seemed they used the same combos with every chars but just changing the way they look.

But well, i have to see more, right now im 50/50

    • Barrit

I’ve only played the demo. You can grab it off the Japanese or Asian PSN and give it a try.

    • joesz

      Aara,you are better then that:)

      • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Sorry. I knew he’d say it when I saw the headline and when I clicked the article he hadn’t been here yet. I had to do it

  • ZOH-MAH-GAWD so this is how the game looks?! It…looks….epic!!!! Wow look at how big those monsters are!!! Its gonna be awesome playing as my favorite shinobi of the hidden leaf as I take down those foes, using my favorite Giant Rasengan!!!! I cant wait to see the playable cast, hopefully Suigetsu is playable character too (awesome dubbed voice) and Kiba!!! Ive already added to my Amazon wishlist, guess I better preorder it so I can have it on Day 1 Baby!!!!

    • Sorry, but you got inb4’d. No Day 1 for you.

    • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Sheesh, just how many Naruto games do you have, TS? Don’t you get tired of playing those?

      • Lets see:
        Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm
Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2
Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution 3
        Naruto Dragon Blade Chronicle
        Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes
        Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2
Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3
        Naruto Shippuden: Legends: Akatsuki Rising
        Naruto Path of Ninja 2

Its only 9 of them, lol, so I guess not that many. If I had found out about Naruto earlier, I would have many more (considering that I would have owned a PS2 as well).

        • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Oh? Since when have you known the Naruto franchise, by the way?

          • I guess it was summer 2008. The demo to Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm was on the PS store and I decided to play it and got hooked and then immediately bought the game and once finishing it, I was hooked to Naruto for life. I immediately bought all the anime episodes released and then subscribed to Shonen Jump and bought the manga the games and so on; I was hooked! lol.

          • So a game got you to see the Anime mmm…. interesting. If more people were like you many we would see more games based on Anime released.

      • The Narutimate Hero series are quite awesome. I personally have Narutimate Hero 1 till Narutimate Storm 2, skipping only Narutimate Storm 1. Uzumaki Ninden and Akatsuki Rising are kind of meh, though

        • [The Hunter] Doomrider

I never owned them, but I still played 1, 2, 4 and a bit of 5. To someone like me, who enjoys the eye candy and sucks at fighters, they were pretty cool! And RPG mode was such a great idea (CC2 <3).

I bought the Storm 2 CE when it came out and I absolutely loved the game. It's sooo good. Again, the boss battles are absolutely amazing (I've said this many times on Siliconera =P) and the cel shading and animation are on a league of their own! Kinda miss the hour-long ougis from the PS2 days, but it's great fun just the same.

Anyway, I don't see myself playing a Naruto game outside of the Storm series now. That's more than enough Naruto for me =P

(On the topic of sucking at fighting games and in my defense, I think I kinda knew how to play Tekken 3… Spent dozens of hours with that game, loved it to death. Hwoarang <3)

From what I know, this game sold poorly in Japan. I guess the Naruto fanbase and MH fanbase are not very overlapping.

  • Looks like I might get this due to the fact that I love games of this type. Can’t wait for GEB and I’m still enjoying LoA.

    • Draparde

i want to buy LoA…but none of the stores around where i live have it in yet because of a winterstorm. i played the demo abit but overall how good do you think it is?

      • bought the game day one still playing it!! 11 of my hours was from the demo!! Hmm it felt kinda like a low budget game after creating my 2nd character i realize a lot of things. The girl stance is the same as the guys! It made me hate the girl character so much because theyre standing like Tidus with the one hand sword. The mutiplayer wasnt as exciting AND u only get stats shown on ur guild card if u host which is lame. I felt that the game shouldve been 20 bucks! Since every weapon has only 4 skills and outta the 4 only 1 skill is worth it and u will be using that same one through at the whole game!! One fight can take up to 1-20 minute depending how good ur equipment IS!! Leveling up is “kinda” useless since u gain a bit of HP and very little stats only and everything is base on ur Armor+Weapons. Playing the game for what it is ill give it a 6 outta 10.

        • Draparde

ah, i see. thank you (and barrit) for the comments ^_^ it definatly helps to know what i might be getting into

      • Barrit

I haven’t played Monster Hunter yet so I can’t really give a comparison, but the game is pretty fun. Multiplayer can be really fun if you have cool people to play with. I was playing last night and before I knew it, it was almost 4am! I don’t know where the time went. My main complaint, like Kevin already said, is that only the person hosting the game gets credit for the quest. We had to take turns hosting the room and doing the quests over again so we all got credit.

  • karasuKumo

I saw a gameplay video of someone charging their chakra and it being empty literally not even a second later then them charging again, and again, and again -_-. Finally they did a Rasengan and missed! They “run” rather slowly and the combos look pretty unresponsive so no thank you. I guess die hard Naruto fans might be interested in it, whatever floats your boat lol.

  • HINATA!!!<3

  • M’iau M’iaut

Someone please just make a Naruto x Pokemon x One Piece fighter and release it already! That should keep Tsuna happy for the rest of his life.

And he’d find a way to DAY -1 THAT ONE BABY!!

    • Replace Pokemon with Bleach, and I would so be there for that game!!!!

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Did you know about this game?

        • Battle Stadium D.O.N could’ve used a larger character roster. Otherwise, its a pretty good anime fighter

          • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Looking at the character screen, it’s got… 18 characters? They could certainly have added a lot more characters, considering the source material…

I tend to play games by myself, so a Smash Bros kind of game like DON really wouldn’t be that much fun to me =P

          • It was a couple of years back, so it’s a bit excusable.. It was good at the time of its release. If you manage to stumble across it, try it out. It’s worth your time. I play alone too ;__; my bro’s not that much into anime as me.

          • Dude, when you say it like that, I feel like a total looser playing “alone” too. :(

I remember playing D.O.N by my cousin, it was quite fun, but really nothing to be played for hours. Loved the idea of crossover though(didn’t know there were such things other than Smash Bros. at that time). :P

          • [The Hunter] Doomrider

            Forever alone =(

  • shion16

i hope this game is better tha fairy tail games

  • Is it worrying that I scrolled down after reading the story to see when Tsuna posted?

Anyway the game is looking decent and I will give it a try when it’s released. Hopefully it will be slightly in-depth and not just be a simple button mashing killing affair.

  • Well the monsters look pretty awesome I’ll give you that, but I’ll stick with MH.
