This Is Melty Blood Developer French Bread’s New Game

By Ishaan . February 7, 2011 . 8:25am

Back in July of last year, Melty Blood developer, French Bread, revealed that they were working on an entirely new 2D arcade fighter, following the commencement of Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code.

Titled Under Night In-Birth, the game is about 30-40% complete. French Bread have revealed four characters so far: Hyde, Linne, Waldstein and Carmine, all of whom you can check out at 4Gamer’s coverage of publisher, Ecole Software’s recent event.

You can find the official site for Under Night In-Birth here. Below is a poster for the game, courtesy of Hachimaki. Additionally, French Bread are also working on Lunaria, a horizontal shoot-em-up.

  • Can’t say much for now, but what I see looks very nice, love the Melty Blood games. Looking forward for more on this game.

  • joesz

That poster look so Kara no Kyoukai-ish:)
Looks interesting though and I’m sure that, that protagonist is a mixture of characters I’ve seen before.

    • This is common in every game, oh look Ragna is so original :P (I love BB by the way)

  • Those are some impressively crisp high res sprites! Sadly this game won’t be anywhere near the popularity of the more mainstream games

  • I thought that was Ragna for a sec @[email protected] And those are some Sexy 2d sprites; for about a minute there, I thought that the girl in Orange was a 3d model…

  • What a dumb name.. Looks cool but still a dumb name

    • I think you’ll cringe hearing a character named Kissshot Acerolaorion Heartunderblade

      • I know that I would so love that character! xD

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Kizumonogatari! Looking forward to it <3

    • Apollonis

The “pull random English words from a hat” naming convention doesn’t bother me, at least it produces some interesting results :p

  • Darkrise

That’s some really nice quality there 0.0 Sadly this isn’t getting localized either huh…

    • Apollonis

Not unless arcades suddenly make a comeback.

      • PrinceHeir

what do you mean arcades make a comeback? im assuming you mean US because arcades outside of the US is as strong as ever. countries like japan, korea, singapore and even philippines(where im from) there are still many people playing it and tons of retailers buying cabinets. im actually surprised we got KOF XIII and Street Fighter IV(not sure about AE but i think we have it) we usually get the latest tekken at least 3-5 days after it’s released in japan so yeah arcades is still booming.

though im currently in the US, i would like to go back home and play some arcade games. i miss them :(

as for the game hell yeah, hopefully we do get a release. if Arcana Heart 3 made it on consoles i think this game has a fair chance of making it :)

        • Apollonis

Yep, I meant outside of Asia (and parts of more Asian-influenced sections of California, I guess). It makes me wonder what the big difference in culture is that lets them succeed in those areas but not others (although I think arcades even in Japan etc. are on the decline, like NIS’s big losses recently have largely been in that department and many are closing…).

          • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Bear with me for a second: are you Divine from Random Curiosity?

            Just… random curiosity.

          • Apollonis

“Bear with me for a second: are you Divine from Random Curiosity?”

I’m not, actually I had to look that up to see what you were talking about, and wow, we have almost exactly the same avatar huh? That’s pretty weird, I just chose it semi-randomly from an illustration.

          • Darkrise

An article about japan’s arcades a few months ago listed them as “slowly dying off” so even arcades are declining there.

          • PrinceHeir

yup it is a cultural thing. some people prefer playing on the house with friends while others in the arcade where all the people gather. i miss those days where arcades game here in the US was booming. i remember about DDR being played non-stop here.

yeah i do agree japan’s arcade have recently been declining. though i would have prefer to call it over saturating. they have tons of pachicko games yet the prices to play them is $1 per game O_O

        • z_merquise

There’s an arcade cabinet for KOF XIII in the Philippines? Please, tell me where did you find it. I really wanted to see the game for a long time and Youtube videos aren’t enough.

          • PrinceHeir

well according to here one of them is in Timezone SM Megamall Timezone. they even had a tournament held there O_O

BTW are you there in the philippines right now?

          • z_merquise

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I’m from Philippines.

I’m surprised that there’s even a tournament held for this game in Philippines. Glad that there still people in the country who still appreciate 2D fighting games because almost every people that I know these days only played Tekken and don’t care for games like Blazblue, KOF, Samurai Shodown and even Marvel vs Capcom. Heck, most of them were not even aware that there was Street Fighter 4 before.

Thanks for this one. I better see this game when I get a free time.

          • PrinceHeir

            cool :D

how is it there? i heard it’s getting hot there lately? are you in college now? sorry for asking soo many questions ^^

yeah Tekken is probably our no.1 fighting game. though im surprised how blazblue and street fighter has been getting tons of attention lately.

you should also try going to Araneta and Greenhills im sure most malls there have arcades. sooo lucky :P

  • If this game suceeds maybe we can see a new Melty Blood HD.

There are news about the new Melty Blood too:

  • MizuMikomi

Thousand night. Recurrence night. Reverie end Invite.
and… [7days Immortal] Unreal BLACK THINGS.

Thats an odd choice of words, and BLACK THINGS being in caps… I think they just found random words that sounded dark in nature and slapped them below the logo. Then again its a Japanese game… and you know how well Japanese developers use English… <_<

Well at least the title doesn't sound that bad, I always thought Melty Blood sounded pretty odd, so this is definitely an improvement on that.

  • Will the sprites look better than the latest version of Melty Blood?

    • That would be nice. A much needed improvement to the sprites of Melty Blood looks to be a point this game is going to make.

  • raymk

Well like most have already said this game has some very good sprites

  • BadenBadenPrinny

I hope it isn’t dumbed down or worse handle supers the IaMP did…

  • Under Night In-Birth? Awkward, but ok. I’ll bite. Whether it’ll be something better than Melty Blood or just a better looking Melty Blood, time will tell.

  • I hope this comes to America.
