Durarara!! 3way Standoff Gets An Enhanced Re-release

By Ishaan . February 10, 2011 . 1:01pm

Some of you may remember Durarara!! 3way Standoff, a PSP visual novel style game published last year by ASCII Media Works.

Starring Yoshimune Miyoshi, a game-exclusive character created for the Durarara!! universe, 3way Standoff allowed you to interact with the game’s cast, scattered around Ikebukuro.

It looks as though Kadokawa Games (Earth Seeker, Rodea) are following 3way Standoff up with an “enhanced” version containing more content, titled Durarara!! 3way Standoff –Alley-. The “Alley” in the title, they say, refers to watching or observing from an alley.

Durarara!! 3way Standoff –Alley- is slated for release sometime this year on the PSP. You can visit the game’s website here.

Hm Ill visit the website just to check it out…though speaking of Durarara…I still need to hunt down the dvd. I cant believe Bandai is selling just part one for $42…

Part one of 3. That’s a perfectly reasonable price considering that other anime companies sell their series in 2 parts at a price of about $65 per part.

No dating sim, not even close. Is from the anime Durarararararararararararararararararararararararararararararararaa.

But i dont see what they can do of interesting with a game, personally, the anime’s story wasnt that good, at least good enough to make me interested in any game they release.
It was still a different style of anime, and sometimes fun to see. But it really has its own personal style, it was ok at the beginning but didnt liked the later episodes.

PS: This is just my own opinion, im sure there are peopel out that that love the anime

The anime was badly executed, the novel and the manga handled it much better. The story is nothing great at the point the anime ends, but if you like stories with lots of characters and that builds slowly with each of them, connecting itself and becoming greater, then Durarara is one of the best out there.

Really? There is so much fan art and memorable moments that I see from the anime, that I thought most people agreed it was an interesting and epic anime experience. I didnt know it was a novel and manga though.

Originally a light novel launched on 2004 with 8 volumes until now, with a anime adaptation based on the first three volumes and a manga adaptation running monthly on GFantasy. I read some chapters of the first volume you can find on the net and some snippets of later volumes a person tranlated on her LJ, it’s far better executed than the anime. The pacing is better, the characters are more interesting, and the presentation order is better handled, for example, the prologue of the novel starts with Seiji being stalked by Harima and dealing with her (with a bad ending), wich sets the tone for the rest of the novel, while the anime starts with Mikado coming to Tokyo(wich is like, the fourth chapter if I’m not wrong) and with the introducton of the Headless Biker(wich are the first three chapters).

Yeah, The Verbose Playground has a lot of translations from the light novel. I read a few too, but I don’t want to spoil too much, so I’ll wait until there’s a full translation (if there will ever be such a thing).

I enjoyed the anime a lot, but from what I’ve read, the novel is indeed vastly superior. Much more exciting, too (Mikado and his mighty pen or the scene in which Masaomi fights the Yellow Scarves). Still, I wouldn’t mind a full anime adaptation…

About the article, hum… DRRR!! Final Mix? If they’re releasing it, then there’s probably demand for more DRRR!! related stuff. I really wanted Brains Base to continue the anime, it could be great.

      Shizuo-chan~ :)

When I was in Nishi-Ikebukuro, I saw a beat up drink machine and thought ‘Shizuo…….’

I played some of this and it was kinda back and forth-ish but then again, I can’t really read so… :(

The appeal of 3-way Standoff is the characters. If you love the characters and the way they interact, it’s definitely a welcome treat. The story is pretty weak, though.

Personally, I always thought the game was aimed more at girls than anyone else. It has cute merch, and some of the things the characters say in game are rather fanservice-y (coughIzayacough). Plus, this new game is pimping Izaya and Shizuo on the cover, so…yeah? XD

Seriously, the Shizaya pimping never stops. I’m not even a fan of that pairing, but it certainly is starting to seem canon from all the Shizaya merchandise they’re churning out! (I had a friend who, before watching Durarara, thought they were the “true” main characters because of all their merchandise.) This remake is probably just an excuse to squeeze out even more money from the fujoshis. :p
