A Trio Of Koei PS One Games Attacks PlayStation Network

Last month, the ESRB rated Saiyuki: Journey West and Destrega for the PlayStation 3 and PSP, which tipped us off that the games would soon be available on the PlayStation Network in the U.S. — and now they are.

Saiyuki: Journey West is a tactical role-playing game based on, as you might suspect, the Chinese classic, Journey to the West. Meanwhile, Destrega (pictured above) is an arena-based fighting game that combines a Rock, Paper, Scissors system with freedom of movement around the arena.

The third Koei game that released on the PlayStation Network alongside these two was Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire. All three games cost $5.99.

  • Yukito

    Whoa, they made Sanzo female?

    • Zero_Destiny

Yeah they did!!! And she’s hot!!! lol
You can atcually choose whether or not you want to be male or female like in Harvest Moon.

  • Was never good at any of the Romance of the Three Kingdom games. It’s become one of my ambitions to become at least good (if complete a game) on one of them

    • WonderSteve

RoTK IX was released in English for PC. Give it a shot, it is probably one of the best recent RoTK

  • Zero_Destiny

Oh man I love Saiyuki, good game. Still got PS1 copy in mint with the case an instruction booklet. :)

    • M’iau M’iaut

Perhaps this is one Tsuna shouldn’t Day One! He will play it, and wonder where Bulma and her flashing panties are. Then get frustrated, walk away and tell us how much better games with real combat and today’s great graphics are.

      • Zero_Destiny

You’re certainly on the ball today M’iau M’iaut … XD

  • Wow, Saiyuki for $6? Sold. Where the heck is Xenogears and Vagrant Story though?

  • Yui

To the announcement of Destrega, I say: HELL YEAH! I remember playing it, and Evil Zone, when I was a kid. Want to get back into ’em now. :D

  • Day2Day

Wait… Koei made games that weren’t Dynasty Warriors?

  • MGSBigBoss

So if I were to buy just one of these games… which would be the MUST have…? I heard of Romance of Three Kingdoms but i dont recall ever playing it… and Destrega i will probably skip on… so Saiyuki vs RoTK… tell me the good and bad of both.

Saiyuki is a SRPG. It’s nothing really special. It’s a standard turn-based on grid SRPG like Final Fantasy Tactics. But you can’t make your own army, you only have story important charas in your party. The best thing about it is that your party members can transform into their “were” Forms which means they turn into giant monsters and pretty much do massive damage. It’s fun but nothing new. I did really like all the China/India feel to it. You don’t see too many games with those kinds of mythology. I haven’t played Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire is but it seems more like a strategy game in the vein of like Age of Empires. It was a SNES game but I think this version is the enhaced PS1 version of that game. You can buy that game on the Wii’s VC too. Some Videos for you.
