Dr. Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights Converses In English

By Ishaan . February 16, 2011 . 6:02pm

Konami had already confirmed their Professor Layton-inspired puzzler, Dr Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights for a European release in the past, but they’ve confirmed a U.S. release now, too. Both regions will see the game this summer.

We also have localized screenshots of the title. Dr. Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights stars an unpopular university professor who seeks only treasure and to test his wit against puzzles. Sophie, is assistant, helps keep Lautrec in check.

  • This game looks like it will have epically awesome sound and drama designs. I hope the best for Konami (and that they multiplatform it). As I would love to have it.

  • I am sorry, but the art in this game is friggen awesome. I mean like, REALLY awesome.

    • I love the colors @[email protected]

    • Shuryou

You’re right. I actually like this more than Layton’s despite there being similarities.

  • Zero_Destiny

Looks great, let’s cross our fingers for it to come to America (Argh Region Lock). I love the old-school animation. Reminds of the cartoons from when I was a kid. :)

    • Phlo

You can uncross your fingers sooner than you thought, since you missed a bit of this very article:
“…but they’ve confirmed a U.S. release now, too. Both regions will see the game this summer.”

      • Zero_Destiny

I am just dumb all over the place lol This is the second big screw-up I’ve done today (well yesterday I guess lol). Thank you for pointing that out. Whew, must be all the midterms or something but I’ve been sucking lately. lol

  • puchinri

It’s looking and sounding more and more like Prof. Layton…
The distinctions are interesting though. I would still play it. I suppose I’ll get the chance this Summer, which is surprisingly soon.

    • The character’s background is similar to Layton’s, but the game looks like it’s an RPG with puzzle elements.

      • puchinri

It does. I do see a a lot of different similarities between the series and characters, but even in the character and general gameplay, looks like there’s something interesting differences.
But I heard Mask of Miracles plays different, is it something like this or more classic Layton gameplay? I can’t remember which article I read it on…

        • Oh, I think I know what you’re talking about. There’s a section of the game where you explore an archeological site as young(low-mid 20s?) Layton and his friend. I think it contains some light adventure game puzzle elements there, but the present day portion of the game is classic Layton.

          • puchinri

            Yeah, that’s the part~!
Ahh. Alrighty. I couldn’t remember it well. x’D

  • The moustache speaks many languages.

Also on the top left screenshot, Dr. Lautrec looks like Watson (from Sherlock Holmes). Therefore Dr. Lautrec is a badass reimagining for the famous sidekick.

    • Tom_Phoenix

Actually, I think Lautrec is supposed to be a reimagining of C. Auguste Dupin, similar to how Layton is a reimagining of Sherlock Holmes.

That is why I am looking forward to seeing how their rivalry turns out. As I mentioned in another news post related to this, I would love to see a crossover game that included both of them.

  • TNA_Lewis

…well, looks like I’ve found my new avatar.

  • This would be the reason for me to buy the 3DS, gotta love the classic art style and as I said in an earlier thread, the badass moustache, the badass monkey and the girl! <3

So don't worry Nintendo, sooner or later you will have my money nonetheless~

  • SupaPhly

I want to see Dr. Lautrec and Professor Layton in a one on one gentlemanly fistfight

    • neocatzon

It’s just a matter of time, my son..

  • Doctor Lautrec vs. Professor Layton. It’s going to happen.

    • Lautrec actually does look like he’d fit right into a Layton game, and be the Moriarty to his Holmes.

  • Joanna

Great news, I was interested in this game since it was announced. I may not have a 3DS by the time this comes out, but I’ll still be picking it up to save for later. :3
