First Look At The Super Mario Galaxy Team’s Mario Game For 3DS

By Ishaan . March 2, 2011 . 9:56am

At a keynote at the Game Developers Conference, Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, provided a few teases on Nintendo’s upcoming Super Mario game for the Nintendo 3DS, first hinted at by Shigeru Miyamoto last month.

Iwata revealed that this new game is being developed by the Super Mario Galaxy development team (known as EAD Tokyo). He also asked people to note the “tail” in the game’s logo, and stated that Nintendo would reveal more at E3 this year.

  • Tanooki?! Or is Mario getting a new sidekick?! Im excited for E3 details! Bring it on baby!

    • Testsubject909

And upon the horizon, if you would stretch your ears and listen, you can hear the faint echo from a not too distant time in the future, as a message from worlds beyond echoes back into time to deliver us a message about this new title for the 3DS…

And oddly, it is in the voice of Tsuna and sounds as though it says “Day 1 babeh!”

  • Code

rar hooray >ww> I’m really happy to see Nintendo go back to those games and start to bring qualities from them back in more recent Mario games >w<'

    • New Super Mario Bros Wii didnt have a strong sense of Mario’s world?

      • Code

I think it had a nice sense of it, they did draw from numerous SMB3 elements when making it, like the return of the Koopa Kids which was awesome >w<'

        • dairugger

I agree. I always hated that they went back to using browns to represent the blocks, and those hideous question blocks instead of the rounded ish yellow ones from later games. I guess i dont like that theres more plumber-ish design choices in the new games, where 3, world, and yoshi island were more whimsical.. just my feeling tho.

  • I feel sad for saying this, but for my better well-being, I think I’m going to have to filter out any Nintendo related news this E3. I don’t think I want many of these games they’ve announced to be spoiled for me.

    • They (devs) announce stuff at E3 still?

      • puchinri

Doesn’t Nintendo usually? I actually can’t say much about everyone else…

        • It… It was a joke… ’cause not a lot of developers really announce games at E3 now.

          • puchinri

I know, sorry about that. x’D
I did mean for the second half of my comment to be a bit ironic. I loved what Nintendo did last E3, but really, E3 was just pure fun last time because it was a giant wtf party, just one thrown by the game industry.

  • Oh GODDD ! Day 1 baby, day ONE ! :D

  • Caligula

Looks fun… I’ll probably check it out when it comes here.

Even though the DS and the PSP have been out on the market for years, I’m still continually awed by how nice and smooth the graphics are on handhelds nowadays.

  • kylehyde

    june looks so distant now.

    • Its only 2308 hours from now, at least its not a year away

      • kylehyde

        Hey let me be dramatic.

  • We all know what the tail means – the return of the awesome Racoon Suit in 3D :D

    • Tanuki.

      • Well I’m calling it what I called it in my childhood :D

  • Oh my Jesus those graphics. That’s like GameCube tier. Which is basically Wii tier.

  • Now THIS is something worth buying the 3DS for!

  • Tom_Phoenix

NOOOOO! I wanted the Super Marios Bros. (the 2D Mario) to be released first! =(

Oh well, to be fair, this does look promising. But considering how there is already a great shortage of major 2D platformers, I would have prefered if they made the 2D Mario game first.

    • Yes we need more 2D games, I’m hoping we get Metroid Dread for 3DS presented in the same way as Shadow Complex or DK: Country Returns.

  • Here we go!

  • SUper Tanuki Mode!!!

  • Joanna

I always thought Tanuki/Raccoon Mario was adorable, so I’m be really happy if that suit makes a return. :3 Frog Mario is also pretty cute.
